• WHAT: Salem Elementary is excited to announce that Salamanders on the Run is back! This is an active, healthy club for students (and their parents) who like to run, jog, walk, and improve their physical fitness, while also building friendship and camaraderie amongst the entire school community.

HOW: Students will walk/run laps around the track and collect "foot" charms for every mile they complete. They will receive a special "13" charm when they've run a half-marathon, and a "26.2" charm when they've accumulated a marathon's worth of miles! At the end of the year, students will be able to take home their charm bracelets (or can be attached to a backpack) as a recognition for all the miles they've completed. We will celebrate each student marathon with a special "medal" and lots of cheering at the finish line!

WHO: The club is open to all students and parents. Students in grades K-1 must have a parent remain with them on the field in order to participate. Students in grades 2-5 may be dropped off at the field with a Run Club Representative at 8:00 a.m. Students will be escorted to the school building at 8:45 a.m.

WHEN and WHERE: The club will meet on Thursday mornings from 8:00-8:45 a.m. at the Salem Middle School track. This a year-long club, but we will take a break during the month of January as morning temperatures frequently drop below freezing. Each track will meet 16-20 times throughout the course of the year, giving students ample opportunity to accumulate enough miles to earn a Marathon Medal! Students may attend Run Club during their track out, but a parent is required to stay with them. We will have make-up sessions toward the end of the year as needed if cancellations for weather require it. Pets are not allowed on the track. Club communication, updates, and announcements will be handled through Talking Points.
    • Start Time: Thursday, October 26 (Track 3 will start November 16)  JANUARY BREAK
    • Resume Date: Thursday, February 1 (weather permitting)
    • End Date: Sometime in May or June, depending on weather cancellations
    • Students must remain active in the club, and more than three missed meetings will result in their spot being released to another student on the waitlist.
