Ms. Patrickson
I grew up in the beautiful country of Jamaica. My passion for teaching developed early, as I would often watch my mother, a former teacher, explain lessons to younger students. After high school, I spent a year as a Teacher’s Assistant where I realized that teaching was the perfect way to combine my love of learning with my desire to make a difference in others' lives. The following year I pursued a Diploma in Primary Education at Bethlehem Moravian College. I further continued my studies in my field where I acquired a Bachelor of Education in Primary Education.
I started my teaching career in the year 2006 at Retirement Primary School , where I’ve spent seventeen years teaching grades one through to six. Since July 2023, I have joined the Pleasant Grove Flyer Family as a second grade teacher. I love the challenge of working with students at this pivotal age—helping them develop through childhood, while fostering a love of learning and critical thinking. In my classroom, I focus on creating a supportive environment where students feel safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and take risks in their learning through creative projects into the curriculum and hands-on science experiments, to make learning more engaging. I am also a big believer in building strong relationships with students, as I feel this is key to their academic and personal growth.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy scrolling to internet and spending quality time with my family. These activities help me recharge and give me new perspectives that I can bring back to my students.
Teaching has been an incredibly fulfilling career, and I am passionate about helping my students not only succeed academically but also grow as curious, compassionate individuals. My goal is for every child to leave my classroom with a sense of confidence and excitement about what they can achieve.
