Degrees and Certifications:
Here are a few things about myself. I have been working with students at all levels, in both formal and informal educational settings, through my experiences as a college professor, a public high school teacher, and a Cub Scout den leader. I received my B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, my M.S. in Zoology from North Carolina State University, and my Ph.D. from the College of William & Mary / Virginia Institute of Marine Science. I have taught Biology & Marine Science courses at both Hampton University and East Stroudsburg University.
My transition to public education began here at Mary E. Phillips High School in the fall of 2006. The faces of students have changed over the years, but their desire to succeed and the frustrations that come with overcoming challenges, both personal and academic, have not. It is very rewarding to watch students as they mature into responsible young adults. In 2011, I took the next step and earned my National Board Certification.
This academic year I am teaching Biology, Earth/Environmental Science (Fall), and Physical Science (Spring). I encourage you to explore the class pages on the left to find updated information about each course and what we are currently doing in the classroom.
