Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Mariah Walker
Greetings Flyer Families! I am Mariah Walker and I have the privilege of serving as the first Assistant Principal at Pleasant Grove! I am thrilled to be a part of the Pleasant Grove Flyers. As a newer community we have the ability to create a nurturing school community of lifelong learners together. I began working in public education in 2005. As an English teacher, I taught English language learners, academically gifted students, as well as adolescents who were unable to read. Through these experiences, I became passionate about improving our educational system, and decided to go back to school myself. I taught for five years before moving into educational leadership through school administration; seeking greater opportunities to positively impact the lives of students. Prior to teaching English, I worked as an infant teacher, 2 year old co-teacher, and 4 year old co-teacher at a pre-school in Raleigh.
I am a Raleigh native, and a former Wake County Public School Student. I completed my undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University, where I was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. I have graduate degrees, also from NCSU (Go Pack), in Curriculum Development and School Leadership. I have been fortunate to work with kids of all ages ranging from birth to 22 year olds. Yet, even though I have worked with many children, my own two children keep me guessing! My husband and I have two toddlers, ages 4 and 2. They allow me to see the world in a different perspective, and renew my belief in the power of providing positive experiences through the educational setting. School communities work best when students, staff, and parents are joined in building the future for our children together. We have a huge influence on the development of our children, and the way they will form their views of how to interact in our world. I am passionate about equity, achievement, literacy, and community outreach. I hope to support your family with a positive experience at Pleasant Grove, so that students feel a positive influence and motivation to be compassionate learners. I am looking forward to flying with you for a great year! Please let me know if I can be of help to you or your family. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Puedo ayudar en Espanol, tambien!
Welcome to the Flyer Family!
