Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Sarah Johnston

I have always loved the creative process, and I enjoy sharing that creative process with my students. After earning a BA from William and Mary, I went to the University of Maryland to earn a M.Ed. in Elementary Education and a MA in Art Education. During graduate school, I focused on designing cross-curricular lessons to help engage students as they made artworks that connected their knowledge across curriculum topics. I have taught at a variety of schools, such as Sidwell Friends Lower School, Chicago Public Schools, and the Latin School of Chicago. I was also a Museum Educator at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA. As an elementary educator, I strive to give my students creative freedom when making art while also teaching them about diverse artists from the past as well as artists working today. I am now the Visual Arts teacher at Olds Elementary and love being a part of the Specials team. When I have time to make my own art, I love pulling prints, watercolor painting, drawing, and knitting.
