Continental Math League
Does your child enjoy mathematical computations, solving problems, and reasoning analytically? If so, then CML might be an opportunity worth exploring.
Continental Math League provides mathematical competitions for all ages throughout the nation. Their goal is to help students build their problem-solving skills in a fun and exciting way by participating in leagues and contests.
Hilburn will be participating in the 5th Grade Euclidean Division. 4th and 5th grade students are invited to try-out on Thursday, October 10th at 7:30 AM in room 505. Those who are interested should complete and return the signed permission slip below no later than October 8th.
At the try-outs, a mathematical assessment, similar to those provided by CML, will be given. Those who qualify will be invited to join the team. The team will meet each Thursday at 7:30 AM from 10/17/19 - 3/19/20. A class schedule will be provided. The students will learn different problem-solving strategies and will apply those techniques in order to solve mathematical challenges.
The team will compete in 5 meets this year. Each meet will consist of approximately 6 mathematical problems. The students will have 30 minutes to complete the assessment. The top 6 scores will be submitted for each meet. At the end of the year, each team will receive 5 certificates and 2 medals. Regional and national awards will also be distributed based on individual and team achievements.
