Principal’s Otter Splash 2/19/2021

Hello, Oak Grove family! I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. It was so wonderful to have our Otters back on campus this week. We have missed you so much, and our building feels so much better with you all back here!

On February 22, Cohort 3/C 4th and 5th graders will return to campus. If you are planning to carpool, please check out the reminders further down in this Splash. Cohort 1/A 4th and 5th graders will come the week of March 1.

On Friday, February 26, we will say “Goodbye” to our wonderful Ms. Terry Williams. Ms. Williams has served Oak Grove almost since the building opened. Like so many of you, she first fell in love with The Grove as a parent. She has been an amazing Lead Secretary and Bookkeeper, but she has decided that the time has come to begin her retirement (I think her new grandson helped make that decision). We will miss her so much!

Additional Remote Learning Days:

On Tuesday, February 16, at the WCPSS Board Meeting, additional remote learning days were added to the calendar. This document, Additional Remote Learning Days, has the added days. Please note that March 29 and 30 are Remote Learning Days, but we will have 2.5 hours of live instruction on those days. All other days listed are asynchronous.

Virtual Academy and Remote Student Specials:

Art, Music, and PE Specialists are excited to meet with Virtual Academy and Remote Learners live for 20 minutes 3 times per week in addition to the regular asynchronous specials time.  More information can be found in the video at bit.ly/OGvirtualspecials

Oak Grove Yearbook, We need your help!:

Ms. Smith, our Yearbook chair, has asked for your help to fill the pages of our upcoming Yearbook. PLEASE send any virtual learning photos that they would like to be included in the yearbook to Ms. Smith:  ogesyearbook@gmail.com by Friday, February 26th, 2021.  She would LOVE to be able to fill pages in the yearbook of kids working remotely at home/camps/ymca, etc.

Fifth Grade Families: Upcoming Virtual 6th Grade Open House

We are beginning to receive information from our partner middle schools about upcoming open virtual open houses. Ms. Michot has compiled a list to share with 5th grade families. Here is the list: Middle School Open House

Return to Campus:

If you are coming to school for the first time, we are so excited to see you. Please make sure you familiarize your family with our safety protocols. As always, masks are required for everyone on campus.  We also need everyone to make sure you are symptom-free when coming back to school. Finally, we are making sure to wash or sanitize our hands frequently.

In-Person Families ACTION REQUESTED for Carpoolers for a smooth arrival & dismissal

  • Adults stay in car at all times with car running
  • Please remember to “snake” through the parking lot to keep cars off Penny Road. If the carpool drive is full, please turn right to go around through the parking lot.
  • Please have your carpool number displayed both during arrival and dismissal
  • If it’s a cold morning, please turn down the heat and remove hats and hoods.  Too much warmth in your car could lead to an inaccurate temperature check at screening.
  • Students should be ready to get out of the car quickly after health screening questions have been answered
  • Students should be seated in the back passenger seat (right side of the car) upon arrival; and will be placed in the back passenger seat at dismissal
  • Students should have backpack/personal items ready
  • Say goodbye or hello quickly

OGES Return to Campus Guide:

We have created a helpful guide to assist you with all the information you may need for returning to campus.  You can find the Return to Campus Guide here: https://bit.ly/2H3m2Sh Please take some time to read through all the updates.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Ms. Rhodes or me with any questions you may have. We are happy to help.

All my best,

Stephanie Bias, Principal
