Third Grade - Beginning of Grade Test
Dear Third Grade Parent/Guardian,
Thank you for your continued support for your child during this school year.
As part of the State of North Carolina Read to Achieve legislation, third graders are administered the Beginning-of-Grade 3 (BOG3) Reading Test. The state requires for this test to be administered in person. Third Grade students are not expected to demonstrate third-grade reading proficiency (score an achievement level 3, 4, or 5) on the BOG3 Test because they have not yet received an entire year of third-grade reading instruction. However, if your child scores achievement level 3 or higher on the BOG3 Test, the score will satisfy the promotion requirements of the Read to Achieve legislation.
Therefore, our school will offer the BOG to any Third Grade students returning to school from semester long Virtual Academy and also to students currently enrolled in the year-long Virtual Academy during the month of February. If parents accept this opportunity, your student will be administered the BOG in-person on the school’s campus. Students who began in-person instruction in Third Grade during October and November already have taken this test.
To keep students safe we will schedule testing in small groups over several days during the month of February.
Please use the link below to register your child by Monday, January 11:
BOG LINK -- https://forms.gle/JudoXoJu8JtW6z2v8
At this link you will be asked to respond to the following questions:
- if your child will participate in this opportunity
- if your child needs school bus transportation for their testing day
- if your child already has a chromebook device issued from WCPSS to use for the test
We will use the information you provide to schedule testing groups and bus transportation. If your student does not score proficient on the BOG, there will be other opportunities to meet the promotion criteria before the end of school, including the Istation Middle & End of the Year assessments and the administration of the End Of Grade test (EOG) at the end of the year.
If you have questions or concerns about the BOG administration, please contact Lauren Engelhaupt, lengelhaupt@wcpss.net. We look forward to the rest of the year, helping all students become better readers by the end of third grade.
Sincerely,
Burt Batten, Principal
BOG LINK - https://forms.gle/JudoXoJu8JtW6z2v8
Sinceramente,
Burt Batten, director
