DRMS' Principal Message
Happy Sunday, Dolphins! This is Kristen Faircloth, proud principal at Durant Road Middle School, with your June 26, 2022 Family Message.
We made it! We are entering the last day/week of the 2021-22 school year! We spent the past week finishing the initial administration of our EOGs and celebrating our Dolphins! Monday, June 27, will be our last day of the school year with Remediation and Readministration taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday for those students who qualify.
This will be the last Family Message until July 25, 2022. We have had an amazing school year working in partnership for the best interest of our students. The first day of the 2022-23 year will be here before we know it. The DRMS faculty and staff wish you and your family a memorable and relaxing summer break with family and friends. Let's all take time to recharge our batteries so we can have an even better year in 2022-23.
EOG Testing and Remediation & Readministration: Tuesday, June 21 concluded our initial administration of the EOGs/EOCs. Congratulations to our Dolphins who worked hard and completed their tests.
On Thursday, June 23, a letter was sent home by students to inform parents of their child's scores. Virtual Academy student scores were mailed on Thursday evening. Parents will receive a more detailed report on their child's test performance, including how they compare to the rest of the district, once the testing has been completed by all WCPSS students.
Students received scores in a range of levels to indicate the abilities or command of knowledge and skills, as follows:
- Level 5 = Superior Command
- Level 4 = Solid Command
- Level 3 = Sufficient Command
- Non Proficient = Not Proficient
A remediation and readministration opportunity is being provided for eligible students. This year, Wake County has opted in to have students that pass an EOG course, but do not score a 3 or higher on the EOG test to have an opportunity for remediation and readministration of the EOG.
DRMS has the opportunity to provide remediation and readministration opportunities for our students who qualify on the last two days of the school year, June 28 and June 29. These last two days will be repurposed such that not all students will attend on these dates. Only the students who qualify and choose to participate will be attending. Students invited to the remediation and readministration days received a letter on Thursday, June 23. If your child is eligible for remediation and readministration, please return the portion of the letter to school on Monday, June 27, so plans can be made accordingly.
Report Cards: 2021-22 report cards will be sent home by students on Monday, June 27, 2022. For students who are absent, report cards will be available for pick-up after Monday. Report cards for Virtual Academy will be mailed.
8th Grade Celebration: Our 8th grade Dolphins enjoyed a Fun Day on Friday, June 24, engaging in rock painting, nail art, corn hole, basketball, kickball, Chick-Fil-A picnic, awards, and yearbook signing! A huge thank you to our 8th grade team for planning such a fun event as well as the DRMS PTA for purchasing the needed supplies. We are looking forward to our 8th Grade Walk Through Celebration scheduled for Monday, June 27. Please see the links below for more detailed information.
Meal Applications/Free & Reduced Lunch: All students currently receive free school meals supported by federal funding due to the pandemic. This funding is set to end on June 30, 2022. In order to receive free or reduced-price meals for next school year, families need to submit a meal benefits application.
All families must complete an application for the 2022-2023 school year starting July 1 in order to receive benefits. Please allow 10 business days for processing.
For every student that turns in the free and reduced meals application and qualifies, the school also receives federal funds that benefit the students and teachers at the school.
We need you to complete a 2022-2023 meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for extra funding next year. If you have not completed a free or reduced-price meal application, please apply online. Paper applications can also be requested by calling 919-588-3535 or 919-856-2920 or emailing cnsmealbenefits@wcpss.net.
Rising 7th Grade Immunizations: NC State Law mandates that all rising 7th-grade students have their TDAP and Meningococcal (MCV) vaccines. Please return immunization records showing TDAP and Meningococcal (MCV) vaccines by or before July 29th, 2022. Immunization records may be emailed to kbograd@wcpss.net. We appreciate your attention to this mandate.
