Dr. Curtis Brower

Principal

Dr. Curtis Brower is honored to serve in his second year as principal of Durant Road Middle School. Prior to joining the DRMS community, he proudly led Powell Center for Play and Ingenuity Magnet Elementary School from 2014 to 2024. A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Brower began his career in North Carolina as a classroom teacher and has spent over 25 years in education as an elementary teacher, assistant principal, and principal. His leadership journey includes roles at three WCPSS magnet schools, where he helped foster academic achievement through creativity and innovation.

Dr. Brower holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University, a Master of School Administration, a Sixth-Year Advanced Education Specialist degree, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership—all from North Carolina State University.

With a deep passion for the arts and a strong belief in innovative, hands-on learning, Dr. Brower is committed to creating meaningful experiences that inspire students to think critically, solve problems creatively, and develop a lifelong love of learning. His educational philosophy centers on experiential learning and the development of a growth mindset—encouraging students to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks, and strive for personal excellence.

Now in his second year at DRMS, Dr. Brower remains enthusiastic about the opportunity to integrate the arts and innovation into middle school education. He is dedicated to building a culture where students and staff alike are empowered to grow, collaborate, and thrive.

Dr. Brower’s family shares his passion for education. His wife, Allison, is also a WCPSS principal. He is the proud father of Andrew, a WCPSS graduate, and Caroline, a high school senior in WCPSS. The family enjoys the company of their loyal dog, Toby. In his free time, Dr. Brower loves to travel, explore new restaurants, spend time outdoors, and enjoy music. A proud alumnus of Penn State and a former trumpet player in the Blue Band, he is an avid supporter of both Penn State and NC State athletics. Go Pack!
