DRMS' Principal Message
Happy Sunday, Dolphins! This is Kristen Faircloth, proud principal at Durant Road Middle School, with your May 29, 2022 Family Message.
We hope everyone is enjoying time with their family and friends this Memorial Day Weekend. Memorial Day is a Federal Holiday and a time that we honor and mourn those who have died while serving our country. Memorial Day Weekend is also the unofficial start of summer!
This has been a challenging week for many of us. The tragic events of Uvalde, Texas weigh heavily on our hearts. Please know that the safety and security of your child are our top priorities. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding our procedures.
For our upcoming week, please take a look below for a few updates on school-wide events. Specific grade-level information will be shared via grade-level communication. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or needs you may have.
Free/Reduced Price Meal Information: DRMS and WCPSS need you to complete a 2022-2023 meal benefits application for next year. If you have not completed a free or reduced-price meal application, please pick up an application at your child’s school or apply online. Paper applications can also be requested by calling 919-588-3535 or 919-856-2920 or emailing email@example.com.
Arts Performances: Congratulations to our chorus students for an amazing performance on May 26! We are looking forward to enjoying the dance concert on Thursday, June 2! Come out and support our Dolphins!

End-of-Year State Testing: At the end of the school year, your child will participate in the regular administration of North Carolina End-of-Grade (EOG) tests , Reading, Math and Science 8. Students enrolled in Math 1 will participate in an End of Course (EOC) test and students in Math 2 will participate in a teacher-made assessment. Testing will follow this schedule. Students who score Level 3 or higher on these assessments are considered proficient.
If you have any questions about EOG or EOC testing, please contact our testing coordinator, Erin Dunbar firstname.lastname@example.org.
EOG Remediation/Readministration Opportunity: This year, Wake County has opted in to have students that pass an EOG course, but do not score a 3 or higher on the EOG to have an opportunity for remediation and readministration of the EOG. Please refer to previous information and/or reach out to our testing coordinator, Erin Dunbar email@example.com with questions. Again, this is optional for only those students that qualify.
