Letter of Introduction: Interim Principal Mr. James "Chip" Mack
I want to begin by saying congratulations to Ms. Caggia for being selected as principal of a new school, Pleasant Plains Elementary. It can be both difficult and exciting to leave a place that you truly love for a new opportunity. I know that Ms. Caggia has been an excellent leader and I plan to continue to support the Apex Elementary School community as an Interim (temporary) Principal. I see my job as ensuring student success by supporting our staff, students, and families. I know that there are many good things in place at Apex Elementary.
After working in WCPSS for 39 years, I retired in January 2021. I love working in schools and since my retirement, I have served as interim principal and interim assistant principal for elementary and middle schools. I have also worked as a substitute teacher. I've had the opportunity to substitute in pre-K through 8th grade, special programs, and for specialists. My previous WCPSS positions include teacher (10 years), assistant principal (6 years), and principal (23 years).
I believe in fairness, understanding, and making connections with students, staff, and families to support our school. My plan for the near future is to support Apex Elementary School and maintain excellence for our school. I love to be in classrooms and to be visible throughout the school.
My wife, Denise and I have two boys (15, and 18), a German Sheppard mix, and three cats. We love spending time outdoors, cooking, family events, and occasional road trips to the beach or the mountains.
As a parent, I understand the love and devotion parents have for their children. I frequently think back to the pride I felt when I was notified of my first job as a teacher. I knew immediately that I would be a positive influence for students. Teachers and school staff inspire the future and I know that we work hard to positively impact student success.
I look forward to being a part of the Apex Elementary School Team.
