Principal's Message 2.18.24

Updates for this week

No school on Monday and Tuesday this week for students.  Classes resume on Wednesday, February 21st!

Positivity Focus for the Week:  Humility

Kids Heart Challenge:  This campaign has now ended.  We will communicate totals once they have all been tallied and finalized.  Thank you for your generous donations!

Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment:  In our continuing efforts to support the well-being of all our students, we will be administering a universal screener of social, emotional & behavioral health to students in grades 2, 4, and 5. Our district is using the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System-2 (BIMAS-2) research-based screening tool. We believe this will help all of our students thrive academically by identifying students who may benefit from additional social and emotional supports and interventions, much like some students benefit from additional academic supports and interventions.

This will not require you or your child to do anything. Your child’s teacher will complete a questionnaire about your child’s actions and emotions displayed in class during a one-week time span. You will also have the option to opt your child out of participating.  More details have been sent home by the students in the participating grade levels.  If you would like more information about the universal screener, please visit our website at www.wcpss.net/universalscreener. You can also email or call our school counselor, Melanie Biddell at mbiddell@wcpss.net or (919)-694-8770 ext. 22851.

Black History Showcase/Celebration:  Please join us as we showcase our 5th grade students’ knowledge into their research of a Famous Black American.  They will also display their artwork rendition of an artist that they have been studying under Mrs. Olson’s guidance and direction.  We will meet in the cafeteria beginning at 9:30 for this floating event.

Symphony Field Trip:  All fourth-grade students will have the opportunity to see the NC Symphony perform on Wednesday, February 21st during their field trip.  They are being asked to dress nicely for the occasion and to show FLYER expectations as always.  We are thankful for the Wheels on the Bus grant and the United Arts Council for the funding that made this trip possible for our students at no cost to them!
