Updates for this week
Positivity Focus for the Week: Love
Winter Clothing Drive: Our Winter clothing drive has now ended. Thank you on behalf of PGES Student Council for all of the donations. It was a very big success.
First Grade Performance: Come out and enjoy a musical performance by all of our first grade students. The ensemble will be lead by our very own Mrs. Eason! It will be held in the gym at 6:30 p.m. (sharp!) on Thursday, February 15th. Students may be dropped off in the music room at 6:10 p.m. We will also hold a brief general PTA meeting just prior to the performance.
Kids Heart Challenge: It’s time for the 8th Annual PGES American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge™! By participating in Kids Heart Challenge, your child will raise funds to help kids with special hearts and make all communities healthier. They’ll also learn about taking care of their hearts and participate in cardio-pumping challenges. This campaign is all on-line. We will not accept any cash. FYI: our campaign will end on Friday, February 16th!
Love The Bus Week: This week we honor and celebrate our wonderful school bus drivers. Please take time out to show them appreciation for getting our students to school and home safely.
Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment: In our continuing efforts to support the well-being of all our students, we will be administering a universal screener of social, emotional & behavioral health to students in grades 2, 4, and 5. Our district is using the Behavior Intervention Monitoring Assessment System-2 (BIMAS-2) research-based screening tool. We believe this will help all of our students thrive academically by identifying students who may benefit from additional social and emotional supports and interventions, much like some students benefit from additional academic supports and interventions.
This will not require you or your child to do anything. Your child’s teacher will complete a questionnaire about your child’s actions and emotions displayed in class during a one-week time span. You will also have the option to opt your child out of participating. More details will come home by your child on Monday, 2/12/24. If you would like more information about the universal screener, please visit our website at www.wcpss.net/universalscreener. You can also email or call our school counselor, Melanie Biddell at mbiddell@wcpss.net or (919)-694-8770 ext. 22851.
