Updates for this week

Positivity Focus for the Week:  Other People Matter—Cheering Others’ Success

Winter Clothing Drive:  The PGES Student Council will be collecting gently used and/or new winter clothing items until February 6th. This is the last week for donations.  Donations will be given to the Salvation Army and then distributed to children in Wake County.

The following is a list of items we are collecting coats, hats, gloves/mittens, scarves

World Read Aloud/Pajama Day:  Calling all volunteers! Pleasant Grove Elementary will be celebrating World Read Aloud Day on Wednesday, February 7th. This is a day where people all across the globe read aloud and share stories to help promote literacy, and particularly in this case, childhood literacy!  If you have forgotten who you have volunteered to read to, please see the link here:

We will also have a school-wide pajama day in conjunction with WRAD.  Wear your PJs on Wednesday too as you snuggle up to a good book : )

Number Drummer:  5th grade students will enjoy the Number Drummer, a cultural arts presentation sponsored by PTA and the United Arts Council on Wednesday, February 7th.  Parents, be sure to ask your Flyer how this connects to what they are learning in math.

Kids Heart Challenge:  It’s time for the 8th Annual PGES American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge™! By participating in Kids Heart Challenge, your child will raise funds to help kids with special hearts and make all communities healthier. They’ll also learn about taking care of their hearts and participate in cardio-pumping challenges. This campaign is all on-line. We will not accept any cash. FYI: our campaign will end on Friday, February 16th!

Middle School Curriculum Night:  West Cary Middle School will hold a curriculum night for current and rising 6th graders on February 15th.  They have extended an invitation to our current 5th graders scheduled to attend their school for middle school.  A flyer has been posted to Class Dojo with specific details and information.

National School Counselor Week:  In recognition of National School Counselor week, please join me in extending a HUGE Flyer shoutout and thank you to Mrs. Biddell and Ms. Burton for all that they do to uplift our school community.  They work tirelessly on behalf of our staff, students, and families in implementing a comprehensive school counseling program.  Thank you both and we are extremely grateful to have you in our nest.

100th Day of School:  There’s nothing I like to see more than “old” 100-year old kindergarteners.  This is just one activity that takes place to recognize the 100th day of school.  Kindergarten students come to school dressed as if they were 100 years old!  There are other 100th day activities planned during the instructional day for various grade levels as we celebrate this milestone of school attendance.
