Principal's Message 1.14.24
Updates for this week
Positivity Focus for the Week: Perseverance
No School: In observance of MLK Day, there will be no school on Monday, January 15th. Students return on Tuesday, January 16th.
Winter Clothing Drive: There's SNOW-thing better than helping others and having FUN while doing it!!⛄ The PGES Student Council will be collecting gently used and/or new winter clothing items from January 22 - February 6th. Donations will be given to the Salvation Army and then distributed to children in Wake County.
The following is a list of items we are collecting coats, hats, gloves/mittens, scarves
Carpool: During morning carpool, we begin receiving students at 8:45. Please do not drop students off at the door prior to that time. There is not any staff present prior to this time to supervise and monitor students. It is not safe to do this. In addition, all students need to be dropped off in the carpool line unless you are walking them up to the door. For safety reasons, I appreciate you not dropping students off in the parking lot, or in the crosswalk areas for them to walk to the building. The line moves quickly and is very efficient.
In addition, for afternoon carpool, please stay in the carpool line after your student is loaded into your vehicle. We are noticing a higher number of cars cutting out of the line to drive around the car in front of them. Again, due to safety, refrain from doing this and instead proceed forward directly after the car in front of you. Afternoon carpool runs from 3:45-4:15. All carpool students need to be picked up by 4:15 each afternoon. As always, I appreciate your cooperation.
Late Arrivals: When checking students in late, please use the QR code to do so electronically and send your child inside by themselves. By following these steps, it expedites the process and allows staff to get students to class quickly.
World Read Aloud Day: Calling all volunteers! Pleasant Grove Elementary will be celebrating World Read Aloud Day on Wednesday, February 7th. This is a day where people all across the globe read aloud and share stories to help promote literacy, and particularly in this case, childhood literacy! We are looking for volunteers to come in and read to students throughout the school day. Volunteers will be made up of parents, family members, and community members with a goal to make sure that every single class receives the opportunity to hear from a "guest-reader". Classroom time slots are only 30 minutes each and volunteers can sign up for as few or as many as they would like!
