Feedback on Possible Calendar Change for PGESIn response to feedback received from families during the Draft #1 public engagement period, the Board directed staff to evaluate the potential impact of converting Pleasant Grove Elementary to a multi-track year-round calendar. This recommendation is being considered in response to requests made by families currently attending Alston Ridge Elementary or Parkside Elementary, that are in the proposal to be assigned to Pleasant Grove Elementary, for calendar continuity for their current elementary students and for K-8 calendar alignment.

Converting Pleasant Grove Elementary to a multi-track year-round calendar would:

  • allow families recommended to be assigned from Alston Ridge and Parkside Elementary calendar stability
  • allow for K-8 calendar alignment for a large majority of families impacted by the current proposal
  • change the calendar for current Pleasant Grove Elementary students who remain assigned to the school
  • sufficiently accommodate future projected growth in the area
  • require substantive preparation from school staff to adjust to the new operating calendar
  • increase the capacity of the school from 616 to 814

special virtual public information session on this topic will be held on Oct. 25. Families can also provide feedback on our online forum, ThoughtExchange.

Your input will be used to help staff as we work toward a final draft of the proposal, which will be presented to the Board on Nov. 21. In addition, your questions will be used to help staff update the FAQ posted on our website at www.wcpss.net/2024enrollmentproposal.

Thank you for participating in this important discussion.

Cultural Arts Assembly:  All students were able to enjoy a PTA-sponsored cultural arts assembly last Friday.  We appreciate Mrs. Eason for bringing such a diverse group of performers and acts to our school this school year.  The students enjoyed learning about and even performing dances that originated in southern India.  A huge thank you goes out to PTA who made this and future events like this possible and also to our music teacher Mrs. Eason for putting it all together.
