Maverick Message for September 22, 2023

 

Staying Home When Sick: It is cold, flu, and COVID season again. To prevent the spread of illness, please keep students home if they are sick. Students should not be at school if they are exhibiting any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.4 or higher
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Severe headache
  • Red, watery eyes with yellow discharge
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Inability to attend learning activities
  • Change in student’s typical medical status

 

If your student is new to WECIB this year: We have to run an update on laptops that were issued to our new students. As a result, we need to collect their laptops on Friday, September 29 and keep them over fall break. These computers will be reimaged and anything saved to the laptop will be lost unless the student backs up their files. Students need to save important files to their Google Drive, flash drive, etc. prior to Friday, September 29. Students will not have access to their laptop until they return to school on October 4.

 

End of Quarter 1: Believe it or not, next week (September 25-29) is the last week of  Quarter 1. Please check grades in PowerSchool to ensure that students are not missing any assignments. Students should work with teachers to ensure that they are caught up. Grades close on September 29.  

 

Fall Break: There are no high school or college classes on October 2-3. Enjoy the extra-long weekend!

 

Seeking Guest Speakers:  On October 11th, we would like to provide our 9th graders with an opportunity to hear from people who are currently working in one of our 4 programs of study:

  • Biotechnologies

  • Computer Programming

  • Cyber Security

  • Network Management

The guest speaker session would run from 8:15—9:00 am. If you would be willing to participate, please complete this form.

 

Upcoming Pre-ACT and PSAT: On October 11, all 10th grade students will take the Pre-ACT and all 11th grade students will take the PSAT. We will have an alternate schedule that day and a special program for 9th graders. Students that are taking the PSAT may want to complete practice tests. This link provides test prep resources for the Pre-ACT.

PREVIOUS INFORMATION

 

New and Experienced Carpool Users (Including families that use bus transportation): With bus transportation being somewhat unreliable, there will likely be new drivers in carpool that are unfamiliar with our process. Given this, we ask all families to familiarize themselves with our processes for carpool:

  • Videos that explain our process can be found here. 

  • Be sure you are always entering and exiting campus at the light at the intersection of Watkins Road and Chapel Hill Road.

  • As you line up in the queue prior to dismissal, cars should line up in both lanes and zipper merge (like you would in a double-laned fast-food drive through line).

  • We ask that everyone be careful of their speed once on campus and be watchful of pedestrians and other vehicles. There have been some near misses in the last week.

  • Be patient with each other. It may be someone's first time picking up in carpool and they are unsure of the process.

Business Partnerships:  Would you be interested in partnering with WECIB this year? One of top school to career goals for the 23-24 school year is to provide our students with a variety of work-based learning opportunities.  There are 2 main ways you can support us in making that happen. You could become a Business Partner or join the Business Alliance Planning Committee. What is the difference between Business Partners & the Business Alliance Planning Committee? 

  • The Business Alliance Planning Committee is a team of 8 – 12 members who work together to plan and implement career events for our students. Business Alliance Planning members are the backbone of the organization, providing a critical link between the professional world of careers and high school students. Members typically meet monthly at the school to work in committees developing meaningful career activities.

  • Business Partners are those interested in participating in the work-based learning opportunities but may not be able to commit the time to assist in the planning process.

Yearbook Photos: We  need your help! If you have a student that plays sports, please use this Google Form to submit photos that can be used in this year's yearbook. Please keep in mind that we may not be able to use all photos submitted.

Junior Parent Night Virtual Meeting: Thursday, October 12 at 6:00 pm. Junior parents will review post-secondary options and steps to take to reach the post-secondary goals for their child. The meeting will be held virtually.

Staff Shoutouts: The PTSA has created this form to allow parents and students to send a shoutout to a staff member. These may be published in our morning announcements and in the weekly message.
