Wednesday Words - 6/5/24

Dear Parents,

I am thrilled that Mr. MacGovern will be the principal of Lacy Elementary School starting July 1. I know you will love him as your next leader! Mr. MacGovern and I will be working closely together during the last few weeks of June to ensure for a smooth transition. He is the right person for Lacy!

I am so proud of how well our students did to keep the building quiet while our 3rd-5th grade students worked hard on their EOGs this week. Tomorrow is Field Day! It will be hot out there so have your child bring water (we will have water bottles too). Please know that safety is our number one priority. We want to make sure students are safe and stay hydrated while having fun. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help run this event. We are not allowing parents to be on the field if they are not volunteering.

Let’s end the year strong! Please help us by reminding your child to continue to follow PAWS expectations through the last day of school! We have many end-of-year celebrations planned and our big Moving Up Ceremony for next Tuesday is planned for our 5th graders. The Moving up Ceremony will be livestreamed into the classrooms so siblings can watch their big brother or sister walk across the stage!

Be sure to click on the Lacy PTA and Foundation information link is HERE!

Grateful for you,

Sherri Miller

CONCIOUS DISCIPLINE TIP

Power of Acceptance is choosing to accept the moment as it is. Mindfulness in action!

· Despite our wishes, plans and best efforts, the world will not always go our way. Children (and adults) will not always behave the way we prefer.

· Or we can embrace each moment and the people in it instead of ignoring, distracting, escaping or denying what’s happening.

· We can struggle against this reality, creating stress and conflict and focusing on problems rather than solutions.

· This does not signal resignation nor agreement. It provides a frame of mind that promotes change and allows access to empathy and problem solving.

· Yes, the repairman is running late again. Yes, traffic is backed up for the fourth time this week. Yes, you feel hurt and angry.

· From the position of “Yes, this is happening,” you can manage your feelings, provide a wise and empathetic response and teach children to manage their emotions constructively too.
