Wednesday Words - 5/15/24

  • Dear Parents,

Thank you to all of you who helped show your appreciation for staff last week. The PTA did an incredible job with snacks, lunch, and then a wonderful surprise facelift of the staff lounge. Thank you to all who contributed to celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week – our Lacy teachers so deserve to be lifted up in appreciation!

As we are now in the middle of May, it feels like we are on the home stretch to the end of the year. It is also time for students to continue learning the standards of quarter 4 while grades 3-5 also start adding test taking strategies in preparation for the EOGs. It is important to have students at school on time and ready to learn each day. Please partner with us by having the conversations with your child around the PAWS expectations at school and the need to do their best in engaging in the work of learning. We want to end the year STRONG!

In preparation for creating class lists for next year, if you feel your child would benefit from being in a separate class from another student, or not with a teacher you socialize with, please share this with us and briefly provide the reason within this Parent Input Form. We will need these complete by end of day on May 24th.

Have your voice heard! There are only 2 days left to complete the Family Survey 2024.

Be sure to click on the Lacy PTA and Foundation information link is HERE!

    Grateful for you,

    Sherri Miller

    STAFF UPDATES

    · We welcome back both Amanda Jones and Tracey McDowell from their leave of absences.

    · We welcome Christian Acree as the new IA in Sarah Young’s class and also helping in 4th grade classes. (Yes, she is Mrs. Acree’s daughter!)

    CONCIOUS DISCIPLINE TIP

Noticing is a strategy at the heart of every Conscious Discipline Skill. It is the Power of Attention in action because it pulls your attention to the present moment.

    · Noticing increases children’s awareness of their inner states and provides them with a model for healthy internal speech.

    · Noticing creates the “two” needed for self-regulation. The external language of the adults in a child’s life becomes the child’s internal speech as they mature.

    · When we rely on judgment instead of noticing, we instill a judgmental inner voice for children.

    · When we notice, we instill a neutral or encouraging inner voice for children.
