Wednesday Words - 4/24/24

  • Dear Parents,

Thank you to all the parents who participated in Laps for Lacy by donating, volunteering, and/or cheering. It was a wonderfully successful day (and I wasn’t too sore from running all day)! We also had a great assembly celebrating Earth Day on Monday with Dan the Animal Man. This week is Volunteer Appreciation Week. THANK YOU for all the ways you have volunteered as part of our Lacy School Family!

It is also Administrative Assistant Appreciation Week and time to express our gratitude for our two wonderful receptionists, Ann Otersen and Nancy Proctor, and our incredible Lead Secretary, La’Kyra Askew.

Please take a few minutes and complete the Family Survey 2024 by May 17th. We have only 50 parents who have completed this as of last week. If you have more than one student at Lacy, complete the survey only once. If you have a student at another school, complete a family survey for that school as well as Lacy.

Be sure to click on the Lacy PTA and Foundation information link is HERE!

    Grateful for you,

    Sherri Miller

    OPPORTUNITIES

Any parent can check their student's LUNCH accounts by logging into MYSCHOOLBUCKS.com. This will allow a parent to add money, review any current or recent transactions and see the current balance available. We are observing that some students are buying many snacks (some are buying as many as 5-7 at time) and either eating them without eating their lunch OR giving them to other students. We do not want any student giving others food.

STEM is in need of pipe cleaners, craft sticks, straws and BUBBLES for K-1 STEM activities.

You’re Invited: Family and Community Engagement Summit Our WCPSS Family and Community Engagement Summit is quickly approaching! All WCPSS staff, families and community members are invited to join us on April 27 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Athens Drive Magnet High. The morning’s programming will feature keynote speakers, breakout sessions and more. Complete the Google Form to RSVP by April 19.

    STAFF UPDATES

    · We have 3 staff members who are retiring in June: Lesley Wade (3rd grade teacher), Mark Trevor (ESL teacher), and Sherri Miller (principal) – we wish them all the best!

    · ALB is leaving Lacy on May 10th to attend Graduate School – congrats!

    CONCIOUS DISCIPLINE TIP

    Commitment for the Week:

“This week, when I am upset, I will take a deep breath and shift my attention from what I don’t want to what I do want children to do.”

Example: Instead of: “Stop running!” Try: “Use walking feet like this.”

    MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE

Just a reminder that we stop early check outs at 2:30 p.m. Please make sure you are here by 2:30 p.m. to check out your student.
