Wednesday Words - 2/21/2024

  • Dear Parents,

I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. This Friday we will have a Cultural Arts presentation with Donna Washington to celebrate Black History Month. We look forward to hear her storytelling.

We also have our Curriculum and Connections Night coming up on Thursday, March 7th. Here is the flyer that is also in your child’s Wednesday folder today - Curriculum and Connections Night Flyer. Transportation will be available for Raleigh Millbank and Grand Arbor neighborhoods.

Be sure to click on the Lacy PTA and Foundation information link HERE!

    Grateful for you,

    MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE

If students arrive on campus after 8:30 am, please come to the door and sign your child in tardy with the QR code. Students should not be coming in after 8:30 a.m. without an adult checking them in.

All WCPSS laptops will stay at school so students can use them for educational purposes during the school day and during assessments. When students are using their device, we are asking students to refrain from having food or their water bottle at their desk. Spills are happening and devices are impacted.

If you have a change of address or new phone number, please contact Emily Spooney at espooney@wcpss.net

    CONCIOUS DISCIPLINE TIP

Composure is the first skill of Conscious Discipline. Without it, accessing the other skills is impossible.

    Skill of Composure: Active Calming

    · We cannot begin to solve the problem if we are unable to manage upset. Active calming allows us to begin to put a pause between the stimulus and our response.

    · If we want a child to calm down and cooperate, we must become calm and cooperative. For a child to achieve an executive state, we must first achieve one ourselves.

    · A child cannot be in a higher state than the adult. We must begin by uploading the internal state we want our children to achieve.
