Staffing Updates

Mr. Tommie Gray will be joining our staff this week as the 7th/8th grade science teacher.  Additionally, Coach Zimmerman will now be teaching 7th grade Healthful Living classes previously taught by Coach Piper.  These changes should be reflected in PowerSchool this week.

Counselor Corner

Student Services will be presenting the Signs of Suicide program to seventh graders on October 1. This WCPSS program is given to all seventh graders across the county and is a part of their healthful living course standards. Letters about the program were sent home with seventh graders on Wednesday. The program has proven to be successful at increasing help seeking by students concerned about themselves or a friend and is the only school-based suicide prevention program listed by SAMHSA for its National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices that addresses suicide risk and depression, while reducing suicide attempts. SOS has demonstrated an improvement in students’ knowledge and adaptive attitudes about suicide risk and depression. It has also shown a 64% reduction in self-reported suicide attempts. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Jamie Gordon, 7th  grade counselor, at jbgordon@wcpss.net.

Highlighting WFMS Staff

This week we highlight one of our newest staff members, Mr. Delbert Jarmon. Mr. Jarmon is serving as our Parent and Community Liason.  You can learn more about him by CLICKING HERE.  Please feel free to reach out him and visit with him at our upcoming family engagement events.

🎃Trunk or Treat🎃

We are excited to invite you to our annual Trunk or Treat event on Tuesday, October 29th, at 5:00 PM! This fun-filled evening will be a safe and festive way for our students and families to enjoy Halloween together. If you would like to contribute to the event, we will be accepting candy donations in the front office until October 28th. Your donations will help make this event even more special for the kids.

Business Owners:

If you own a business and would like to advertise, we encourage you to participate by hosting a trunk or setting up a tent at the event. It's a great way to connect with the community while providing a fun experience for our families!

We look forward to seeing everyone in their best costumes and enjoying a spooktacular evening together!

If you have any questions or would like to participate, please feel free to contact Ms. McDuffie @ eharrismcduffie@wcpss.net or Mr. Jarmon at djarmon@wcpss.net.

Athletics

Our fall athletics season kicks off this week with home games in Volleyball and Soccer on Wednesday and football on Thursday.  We encourage our families and students to join us and support the Cougars as we take on Rolesville Middle.  Tickets may be purchased at the gate or online by scanning the QR code below or at GoFan Pre-Purchase Tickets.

7th Grade Immunizations

North Carolina law requires that all rising 7th graders must present proof of receiving the Tdap and meningococcal immunizations by September 25th.  Any student non-compliant after the due date will be excluded from school and not allowed to attend until proof of compliance has been submitted.

WFMS must have a copy of your physician's record of these vaccines.  Please contact your physician for more information regarding these immunization requirements.

Immunization records can be emailed to jfleet@wcpss.net or faxed to 919.670.4223 (Attention: Jamal Fleet). If you have additional questions, please contact our Data Manager at 919-554-8440 x22437 or Option 1.
