June 2nd WFMS Family Message

Good afternoon WFMS families,

Below are the updates and announcements from WFMS this week.

EOG Testing

EOG assessments will be given on Monday and Tuesday of this week for all grade levels. If your student is in the carpool, please plan accordingly to ensure your student arrives and is in the building no later than 7:30 so we can get our EOGs started as soon as possible each day.

Support and remind your students to get to bed early tonight and tomorrow night so they are able to get a good rest each night.  Have them eat a healthy, hearty breakfast that is free of carbs and sugars. They should try their best and not rush through the assessments.

While taking the tests, students will not have access to their phones or other electronic devices, so please help us in this endeavor by not calling or texting during this time.  Any use of cell phones could cause a misadministration resulting in an entire class possibly needing to retest. It is also important for students to remember they have to remain silent and cannot eat snacks or talk to anyone during the assessments.  Please remind them to listen to the directions given by the test administrator and follow those throughout the entirety of the testing time.  We want all of our students to do the best they can and show their mastery of the content. Below are the testing dates for each grade.

Monday (6/3)

6th grade - Math

7th grade - Reading

8th grade - Reading

Tuesday (6/4)

6th - Reading

7th - Math

8th - Science

Following EOGs from June 5th - June 12th, students who do not score proficient on the assessments will receive intervention and remediation support in their classes.  Students who score proficient will be involved in enrichment activities to enhance their learning from the school year.  In addition, information will be shared later this week regarding the retest sessions on June 13th and 14th. If your student qualifies for this, you will receive communication notifying you later this week.

Finally, to support student pick-up, please note we will be signing students out differently than on a normal day.  Pick-ups will not begin until testing sessions have ended around 11:45 on both days.  Due to the high volume of students who check out after tests each year, we ask for your patience and our staff work as quickly as possible to move through this process.  You will help us expedite the process by having your ID ready and ensuring the person picking up your child is listed in PowerSchool to do so.  You may also complete the Additional Person for School Pick- Up form.  Pick-up will conclude at 1:30 each day.

2024-25 School Year Student Intent Form (Rising 7th and 8th graders)

As we conclude the 23-24 school year, we are already beginning to make preparations for the 24-25 school year.  We are asking all families of current 6th and 7th grade students to complete a brief form regarding student intent for the 24-25 school year.  We recognize many families may have plans to relocate or have a choice of options which may impact their students' enrollment with us.  This is not an official enrollment or withdrawal, but does help us with planning.  Please assist us by completing THIS FORM. If you have multiple students, please fill the form out for each student.

SUN Bucks Program

Recently, information was shared by North Carolina’s Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) and Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) as they launched the USDA’s new SUN Bucks program for eligible students to address the summer hunger gap.  Families who qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch should review the information below and apply.  Paper copies of the application are available in the main office.

Yearbooks

Yearbooks will be distributed this Wednesday for students who purchased them earlier this year.  If any yearbooks remain for purchase following delivery to pre-purchases, we will share a message with families to let them know.

8th Grade End of Year Events

Parents of 8th grade students, please save the date of June 7th for your students' promotion ceremony.  Doors will open at 5:15pm and the ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00pm.  The event will be held in our gymnasium and to comply with fire code regulations each student will receive only two tickets for the event.  For those with larger families we will be setting up a live stream so that others can still see the ceremony even if they can attend in person.
