Greetings Trailblazer Families,
I hope you are enjoying this lovely Memorial Day weekend and the opportunity to be outside with family. There is a lot of information to share as we begin to wind down the 2019-2020 school year, so please make a note of upcoming events below:
- Fairness is the P2 Character Strength for this week
What does fairness mean? You believe that all people have value. You approach situations with an unbiased mindset and treat everyone with respect. Eleanor Roosevelt said the following about fairness: "It is not fair to ask of others what you are unwilling to do yourself." Take some time this week, talking as a family about examples of fairness that you have encountered in your life.
- Celebrating our 5th graders on June 5
If you are a fifth grader, or the parent of one, we know the end of this school year is a bittersweet one. It will be a year that will never be forgotten, but it does make us sad that we cannot recognize our 5th graders and their accomplishments as we would like to do under ordinary circumstances. Please check out this link for specific information about our 5th grade Clap Out on Friday, June 5. 5th Grade Celebration Parent Information
- Student Belongings Pick up guidelines
As mentioned in last week's Trailblazer Times, parents will be able to pick up their students' belongings on June 1 (Track 1), June 2 (Track 2), June 3 (Track 3) and June 4 (Track 4). Please check out these guidelines for specific information about this event. Parent School closing information 2019-2020. Thank you for following the guidelines to keep everyone safe.
Yearbook orders were placed through May 15, 2020. Due to the 3 week turnaround for proofing and printing, yearbooks will NOT be available for pick up during student beloning pick up events on June 1-4. We will contact families when yearbooks are available and will share the distribution information through emails and a future edition of The Trailblazer Times. Thanks for your understanding and grace in these unprecedented times.
- Pre-K Title I Application deadline extended to June 5
Due to school closures and stay-at-home orders, we’ve extended the deadline for families to apply for Title I Pre-Kindergarten to June 5. Our free preschool program prepares children to enter kindergarten ready to learn and succeed. In order to qualify, children must be four years old on or before August 31, submit a completed application, and attend a pre-scheduled screening event to determine need. For more information and to apply, visit wcpss.net/prekenrollment
- New student registration information
Families should first complete the online application according to the information HERE. You can then upload documents (birth certificate, immunization records, copy of driver's license and proof of residence at NCWISE325@wcpss.net. If you can't upload the documents, parents may bring them to school on Thursdays, from 9:00 - 1:00. Help spread the word to neighbors that all students new to Banks Road ES for 2020-21 need to complete this process for K and other grades as well.
Postcards will be mailed on or before Friday, May 29, 2020 to the families of our new incoming K students, for families with new students in grades 1-5, and for current students who requested track changes.
As we welcome Ms. Sarah Simmons as the new principal of Banks Road ES in June, I wanted to tell you what a privilege it has been to serve the Banks Road students, staff, parents and greater school community. My last day at BRES is Friday, May 29. Thank you for your support of me as interim principal over these past almost 9 months. I know you are in good hands with Ms. Simmons and Ms. Leis as your administrative team and will show them the respect and support they will need to make Banks Road Elementary School the first choice for the families in our area. The Trailblazer Times will continue to be published weekly, so continue to check out our website at https://www.wcpss.net/banksroades. Wishing you all the best...#onebanks #trailblazerstrong #givegrace. #inthistogether
Respectfully,
Jan Hargrove, Interim Principal
