Greetings Trailblazers,
Happy Mother's Day to all of the mothers in our school family! We hope that you are honored and celebrated by your families in some way on this special day. On behalf of the staff and faculty, let me send a shout out for the Teacher Appreciation gifts that have come our way this past week, from families and the PTA. Some of the students created videos and shared e-cards and more during the week last week. Last week was also Nurses Appreciation Week! Please join me this week in thanking Ms. Keen for her role at our school. We appreciate her support with health care plans, medication orders and vision screenings to name a few of the things she oversees at Banks Road ES. Her email is lkeen@wcpss.net if anyone wants to send her video wishes this week as well.
- Love is our P2 Character Strength for this week.
This means that you value close relationships with others and being close to people. The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships. When one person loves another person, that person: comforts and makes the other feel safe; sacrifices on the other’s behalf; supports the other during struggles; and places the other’s needs ahead of his/her own. Maya Angelou said: “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” How can you show love to others this week?
- School Calendar for 2020-21.
The state legislature this week decided all traditional calendar schools will begin on Aug. 17, 2020 and end of June 11, 2021. Year round calendar schools will begin on July 8, 2020. The district is working on revising the calendars and they will be shared in the coming weeks.
- Bus Rider registration opens Monday.
Bus rider registration will open on May 11. Students who rode the bus in 2019-20 will be notified via School Messenger on May 12. If you need bus transportation for 2020-2021, you may register for this service.
- Zscaler Notices for student devices.
Our district uses and Internet filter called Zscaler to block inappropriate websites while students use their WCPSS account. If students see this message, they need to log in with their full WCPSS Wake ID (e.g., wakeid@students.wcpss.net) and follow the on-screen prompts.
- New student registration information.
Families should first complete the online application according to the information HERE. You can then upload documents (birth certificate, immunization records, copy of driver's license and proof of residence at NCWISE325@wcpss.net. If you can't upload the documents, parents may bring them to school on Thursdays, from 9:00 - 1:00. Help spread the word to neighbors that all students new to Banks Road ES for 2020-21 need to complete this process for K and other grades as well.
Phone calls will be made to families this week about parent requested track change requests and whether or not we could honor those requests . As we decrease student enrollment this year, we will lose a few classroom teaching positions for 2020-21. We will be reaching out to families to inform them of track changes that need to be made to balance classes. We know that these will be disruptive for families, but we have to follow class size legislation. Thanks for your support if we call you about a move.
Please check wcpss.net/food for all of our food distribution sites, dates, times and updated information. Remember that Banks Road is a food distribution site, serving lunch (day of) and breakfast (for the next morning) between the hours of 11:00 - 1:00. Families may carpool and tell the staff members how many meals are needed. Please reach out to Mr. Day, Mr. Brody and Ms. Meznarich if you have food needs. More information will be shared in the next edition about Virtual K orientation, picking up yearbooks/spring musical t-shirts, yearbooks and personal belongings. We are also planning to recognize our 5th graders in a special way. More to come! Stay safe and well... #onebanks #trailblazerstrong #inthistogether
Respectfully,
Jan Hargrove, Interim Principal
