LOST AND FOUND:

The lost and found will be cleaned out Friday, March 22nd.  Parents and students are encouraged to visit the Lost and Found in the cafeteria to check for missing items.

WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY - Thursday, March 21st:

Just like typical people, individuals with Down Syndrome have two copies of each of their 23 chromosomes but they have third copy of chromosome 21, a genetic condition known as trisomy 21, hence the celebration on March 21st or 3-21.

Let’s wear mix-match socks to support World Down Syndrome Day and take pictures for Twitter with the hashtags #LotsOfSocks, #WorldDownSyndromeDay and #WDSD19.

WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY – Tuesday, April 2nd:

April is World Autism Month. Everyone is encouraged to go blue to increase global understanding and acceptance of people with autism on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. So, let’s wear blue to show our support!

LOCKDOWN DRILL:

In the coming weeks, we will have a lockdown drill. Students and staff will learn what to do in the event of a lockdown emergency. During the lockdown drill no one will be able to enter or exit the building until the drill is completed. Please be patient if you arrive on campus during the drill.

PTA SAVE THE DATE:

Please save the date for the next General PTA Meeting to be held on Friday, May 10, 2019. Additional information will be shared as soon as it is available from the PTA.

ArtQuake:

Throughout the month of March, WCPSS Staff and Students will have their art on display at Sertoma Arts Center which is located on 1400 West Millbrook Road, Raleigh 27612. This show, entitled ArtQuake, is to celebrate Art across the district during Youth Art Month. Dozens of K-12 students will have their art on display as well as art teachers, administrators, instructional assistants, and classroom teachers.

Only 13 schools out of all the WCPSS schools are participating in this event, and our very own Banks Road Art Club students are one of them. Please plan to visit if you are able and let our students know how proud we are of them as they blaze their artistic trails.

 TRANSPORTATION UPDATE:

As a point of clarification, if the school is notified there will be a bus delay it will be posted on the Banks Road Bus Twitter feed. The twitter feed is located on the left side of our school website under the title ‘Bus Information’. Parents may contact the school if they would like to change their child’s method of transportation based on the information.

Wellness REMINDERS:

Our school nurse, Mrs. Keen, shared the following information to help prevent the spread of illness.

Encourage students, parents and staff to take everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs:

  1. Stay home (students and staff) when sick.
  2. Encourage respiratory etiquette (cover cough/sneeze with tissue or bent arm).
  3. Provide adequate supplies within easy reach (tissues/trash cans).
  4. Use proper hand hygiene (wash hands with soap/water for 20 seconds; dry hands with   paper towel and turn faucet off with paper towel).
  5. Encourage students/staff to keep hands away from nose, mouth and eyes.
