Posted by Wade Martin on 1/10/2025Principal Message - Jan 10
Hello, this is Wade Martin calling from Willow Spring High School with the Friday Storm Report. Happy New Year to all of our families.
-
As you know, today was the last day of class for the first semester. Exams start next Monday, January 13th. The exam schedule is posted on the school website homepage under Storm News.
-
Some important reminders about exam week include:
-
We test one class period each day with Friday, Jan 17th being the exam make-up day.
-
Students can not be checked out of school during the required 4 hour testing window while we are administering State Exams, even if your student is not taking a State Exam.
-
If your student is exempt or does not have an exam, they do not come to school
-
Busses on Monday - Thursday run at 11:45 once students have completed testing
-
-
If we have a delay on Monday due to inclement weather - water refreezing on roads Sunday night - we will start testing later and have a plan to be able to provide lunch to students who need a lunch. Students are permitted to bring water and a snack if they would like into testing rooms, as the lunch time may be earlier or later than they are used to, so that we can protect the required testing window of time for students to complete their exams.
Thanks as always for your continued support of our school. Make a great weekend, stay safe and enjoy the snow!

Parent Notification - Jan 9
Posted by Wade Martin on 1/9/2025Willow Spring High Families,
First, know that all students are safe. To keep you informed, I wanted to let you know about an incident that occurred this morning.
We received a report that a student brought a gun to campus. Our administrators and law enforcement immediately responded and investigated, and discovered that a student had brought a BB gun to school.
Shortly after this occurred, our fire alarms were set off in a separate, unrelated incident. We immediately evacuated the school and firefighters arrived within a few minutes.
Firefighters were quickly able to determine there was no fire and the building was safe for students to return, and that the fire alarm was set off by a student using an e-cigarette, also known as vape, in the bathroom.
Any student found in possession of a weapon of any kind or any other item prohibited on school grounds or one of our buses will be disciplined in accordance with district policies.
Please remind your students that they can always feel comfortable reporting matters that cause them concern to a teacher or administrator. Students and parents can also report safety concerns to our anonymous tip line, (919) 856-1911.
Thank you for your continued support of our school.

It has certainly been a tough week here at school for our Storm Family. Please know that our student services department is working to support our students and staff that need time and space to process the loss we experienced this week. This is a time where we need to come together as a school community and support each other the best way we can. I thank you all for what you are doing to support your students and our school through this difficult time.
-
CFNC is having a College Application Week Monday October 21 through Sunday October 27. Students can apply to certain North Carolina Colleges for Free during this time. In collaboration with CFNC, Student Services is planning events for next week which include senior support days on Tuesday and Thursday and a Wake Tech application day on Wednesday. Students must sign up in advance for these opportunities. More information about the week will be provided on the website and students can see their counselor for more information.
-
This Saturday evening is our Homecoming Dance here at WSHS. All tickets were pre-sold, meaning we are not selling tickets at the door for any last minute decisions to attend. Please do not have your student show up to the dance without a ticket and ask if they can purchase a ticket at the door.
-
Also, if your underclassman is attending the dance and they do not drive, please plan to pick them up at 10:00 sharp. Do not wait for them to call you for pickup. We will have all students exit the building at 10:00 when the dance concludes. We thank you for your anticipated cooperation with a timely pickup on a late Saturday night.
-
Lastly, a final reminder that Senior Portrait makeups are on Oct 22 and 23 here at WSHS. Seniors who need their pictures taken must sign up to schedule an appointment. Information about how to sign up is on our website.
Thanks and make it a great weekend! Go Storm.

School Community Message
Posted by Wade Martin on 10/16/2024Dear Willow Springs High School Family,
It is with great sadness that I write this message to let you know that one of our students, Michael Scales, died last evening. Michael was a 9th grade student at WSHS. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. Please keep them and all of those that have been impacted by this loss in your hearts. We want to honor the family and be respectful of their need for privacy at this time.
As a parent or guardian of our school community, we wanted you to know this information. As you think about how to care for your child(ren), there are some resources that you might find helpful to assist your child through this loss. Transitions GriefCare provides free community services to help students navigate these difficult feelings of loss. Alliance Health can also be contacted for further counseling and therapeutic services. Alliance has a crisis line that is available 24 hours, 7 days a week: 1-877-233-4617.
After a traumatic event such as the death of someone they are familiar with, we can expect students to feel anxious, sad, fearful, angry, or vulnerable. They may be scared of losing someone else close to them. Through encouraging discussion, being supportive of feelings, providing factual information, and suggesting positive outlets, you can help your child be aware of and process their emotions. Every child is different, and the emotional response may vary in duration.
Our student services team has been and will be available to support any students who need assistance as they move through this difficult time. Please contact your student’s counselor in Student Support Services to let us know how we can support your student.
We will work together as a unified school community and we will support one another as we process this loss and navigate this challenging time together.
Sincerely,
Wade Martin
Principal

As usual, the first week of carpooling has been very crowded. I need to remind all families that are carpooling, just how important it is at the transition from two lanes to one that polite zippering is the name of the game. By allowing one car from the right lane then one car from the left lane moving in sync, it really helps both lanes move more smoothly and quickly. As we say, if you can do it at ChicFila, you can do it at WS. I would love for our parents to set a good example for our students when it comes to being polite and cooperative.

I do want to thank all of our families for their support and cooperation as we work through our AC issues. I am doing all that I can to work with the district maintenance staff to get our building back in good order. I sincerely hope that our AC issues will be fully resolved very soon.
