• The WSHS PTSA would like to invite all families to the first PTSA meeting of the school year on Tuesday, September 10.  Our PTSA meeting is at 6:30 and is held in the media center.  We hope to see you there.

 

• I would like to remind all of our families about our Meet the Teacher Open House that is scheduled for September 11th at 6:30.  This is an opportunity for you to meet your student’s teachers and learn about what will be covered in their classes this semester.

 

• The PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, October 2nd. Click here - WSHS PSAT for more information on registering your student for the PSAT. 

 

• Applications for the National Honor Society are now open.  Students can access the needed information under the Activities section of our website.  The application deadline is September 14th.

• Me gustaría recordar a todas nuestras familias sobre la Noche de puertas abiertas para conocer a nuestros maestros, que está programada para el 11 de septiembre a las 6:30. Esta es una oportunidad para que conozcan a los maestros de sus estudiantes y aprendan sobre lo que se cubrirá en sus clases este semestre.

• I would like to remind all of our families about our Meet the Teacher Open House that is scheduled for September 11th at 6:30.  This is an opportunity for you to meet your student’s teachers and learn about what will be covered in their classes this semester.

 

• As usual, the first week of carpooling has been very crowded.  I need to remind all families that are carpooling, just how important it is at the transition from two lanes to one that polite zippering is the name of the game.  By allowing one car from the right lane then one car from the left lane moving in sync, it really helps both lanes move more smoothly and quickly.  As we say, if you can do it at ChicFila, you can do it at WS.  I would love for our parents to set a good example for our students when it comes to being polite and cooperative.

• I do want to thank all of our families for their support and cooperation as we work through our AC issues.  I am doing all that I can to work with the district maintenance staff to get our building back in good order.  I sincerely hope that our AC issues will be fully resolved very soon.

Hello, this is Wade Martin calling from WSHS with our first Friday Storm Report of the school year.

 

• Let’s start with a reminder that the first day of school is next Tuesday, August 27th.  We are ready and very excited to kick off the school year.

 

• Tonight is our first Friday Night Home Football game vs New Bern HS.  Game time is 7:00.  We hope to see all of our Storm families here tonight!

 

• We are strongly encouraging all families to set up their student accounts in the new online school payment system SchoolCash Online.  We will be using this for class dues for all students 9-12th, field trip payments, ticket purchases for dances, etc.  The directions for setting up your account can be found on our website under the Parent header.  By setting up your account, parents will get notification emails when events happen that students will have access to attend or participate with.

 

• Please remember to be patient with school bus transportation and carpool for the first week of school.  It will be a little crazy for a few days but everything will get back to normal with patience and understanding from students and parents as we work with you to solve problems that may arise.

Hello, this is Wade Martin calling from WSHS with some opening of school information for all families.

 

• We have a section on our website dedicated to the opening of school. This important information can be found under the Our School Heading then Back to School 2024.  You can find details about our 9th grade orientation scheduled for August 19, updated bell schedules and other information here.

 

• Our rising 9th grade orientation will be held on August 19th.  Families with the last names A - L should plan to attend the morning session from 7:45 - 11:00 and families with the last names M - Z should plan to attend the afternoon session from 11:45 - 3:00.  There will be student and parent information sessions, students will be able to receive and walk their class schedules as well as pick up their new Chromebooks from our Media Center if they are eligible to receive one.  Parents will be able to sign up for the PTSA and purchase Booster Club athletic passes as well as the newest spirit wear available for this school year.  We are so excited to meet the Class of 2028 students and parents!

 

• Information will be shared with families who rely on school bus service by the WCPSS Transportation office starting on August 15th.  Our school staff receives this information at the same time it is shared with families.

 

• The Storm Booster Club are hosting their 2nd annual Cornhole Tournament on 8/24, 5pm at WSHS Stadium. Sign up to play or just come to cheer on the teams and enjoy the fun!  $25 to register a cornhole team, by 8/21. Registration information can be found on Storm Boosters social media channels. Spectators get in free.

 

• Our PTSA wants to let you know that the first PTSA meeting will be Sept 10 @ 6:30 in our Media Center.  Also they have Senior Swag Bags and WSHS gear on sale in the PTSA store. 

 

• For all of the Senior parents who love to plan ahead.  Last week we received our official graduation date, time and location for this year’s graduation ceremony.  Our graduation will be held on Tuesday, June 17th at 8:00pm at the Raleigh Convention Center.  Please get this important date on your calendars now.

• Disponemos de una sección en nuestra página web dedicada a la apertura del colegio. • Nuestra orientación para estudiantes de noveno grado se llevará a cabo el 19 de agosto.  Las familias con apellidos A - L deben planear asistir a la sesión de la mañana de 7:45 a 11:00 y las familias con apellidos M - Z deben planear asistir a la sesión de la tarde de 11:45 a 3:00.  Habrá sesiones de información para estudiantes y padres, los estudiantes podrán recibir y seguir sus horarios de clases, así como recoger sus nuevos Chromebooks de nuestro Centro de Medios si son elegibles para recibir uno.  Los padres podrán inscribirse en la Asociación de Padres de Familia y comprar pases deportivos del Booster Club, así como la ropa con el logo de la escuela más nueva disponible para este año escolar.  ¡Estamos muy emocionados de conocer a los estudiantes y padres de la Clase de 2028!

• El Storm Booster Club organizará su segundo torneo anual de Cornhole el 24 de agosto a las 5 p. m. en el estadio de la escuela. ¡Regístrese para jugar o simplemente venga a animar a los equipos y disfrute de la diversión!  El valor es de $25 para registrar un equipo de cornhole, antes del 21 de agosto. La información de registro se puede encontrar en los canales de redes sociales de Storm Boosters. Los espectadores entran gratis.

Hello, this is Wade Martin calling from WSHS with a reminder message for all Juniors and Senior families as we begin the distribution of parking and off campus lunch passes this week.  All required forms and steps can be found on the links in the banner at the top of our website.

 

It is critically important that when students arrive to pick up their passes that they have all required documents and that all class dues, including 9th and 10th are current and that students have no other outstanding fees and fines such as unreturned textbooks, library books, athletic uniforms, etc.

 

Parking will be assigned on a first come first serve basis until all spots are filled.  It is very likely that we will sell all spots this year so it is important that if you are planning on securing a parking spot, you do so as soon as possible.  We have 484 parking spots available and over 1000 possible eligible Juniors and Seniors.  Please remember that students must have a current NC drivers license in order to purchase a parking spot.

Hello, this is Wade Martin calling from WSHS with a message for our Junior and Senior parents.  I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far!

 

The applications for parking and lunch passes for the upcoming year will get posted on our website on July 15th.  There is a new online payment method for this year called SchoolCash Online.  All parents will have to create an account in order to complete payments for parking, lunch passes and class dues.  I would encourage all parents to set up your accounts prior to July 15th so that everything will work smoothly for you.

 

The directions for setting up the online accounts for SchoolCash are posted at the top of our website.

• Second Semester Exams are underway and are going well so far.  Just a quick reminder that we can not do checkouts during State Testing.  Student testing ends each day at roughly 11:25.

 

• Junior, soon to be rising Senior parents.  We have posted information on our website for Senior Pictures which are completed during the summer.  Please check out the posted flier for this important information.

 

• Senior parents, please reinforce with your soon to be graduate, that they must attend graduation rehearsal on June 12th.  Please check out the Graduation bulletin for really important details for our rehearsal and graduation ceremony.   All graduates will receive their graduation tickets at rehearsal.  Just a reminder to senior parents who are also WCPSS employees.  You must have a WSHS ticket for entry into the ceremony, your badge does not get you in.

• We have made it to the last regular week of school for 2023-24.  Semester Exams start next Thursday.  Please be sure to check out the link to Exam information at the top of our website.

 

• Today was the final day for students making up time due to excessive unexcused absences to turn in their verification sheets.  If by some chance your student forgot, they will need to turn it in before 1st period on Monday in order for it to be accepted.  Please remember that absences in classes prior to exams starting on Thursday do count.  Being in school these last few days for exam reviews is very important.

 

• I would like to remind our families whose students submitted applications for 3 year graduation plans need to attend the required final session on Monday, June 3rd at 6:30 in our auditorium.  

 

• Lastly, to our senior parents.  Please remind your soon to be graduate to be sure they are making plans to attend the mandatory graduation rehearsal that is scheduled for June 12th at 2:30.  Knowing how to get to Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh and where to park are really important.  It’s always a great idea to take a trial run down there, if your senior has never driven down into Raleigh.  Lots of details for our seniors and senior parents are in the graduation bulletin posted at the top of our school website.

• This past week we held our Senior Awards Assembly and our underclass awards assembly today. Congratulations again to all of our students and their families that were recognized this week for their academic excellence and working hard to make our school a great place to be a part of.

 

• Remember that Monday is a holiday and we have no school.  Only 8 school days left before Semester Exams begin. 

 

• Next week we will be hosting the Spring Band Concert on Tuesday as well as our athletics awards night known as our Stormies on Thursday.  Friday we will close out the week with our year end Senior Assembly, Senior Group photo in Caps & Gowns, yearbook distribution as well as the Senior Picnic.

 

• Lastly, next week is the last week for students to make up time for excessive absences.  Students can attend Bolt Lunch daily as well as attend our after school sessions on Tuesday through Friday.  Hours verification sheets must be turned in on Friday, May 31st.

• Esta semana tuvimos la ceremonia de premios para los estudiantes de último grado y hoy tuvimos la ceremonia de premios para los estudiantes del resto de la escuela. Felicitaciones nuevamente a todos nuestros estudiantes y sus familias que fueron reconocidos esta semana por su excelencia académica y por trabajar arduamente para hacer de nuestra escuela un gran lugar para pertenecer.

 

• Recuerden que el lunes es un día festivo y no tendremos clases. Solo quedan 8 días de clases antes de que comiencen los exámenes semestrales.

 

• La próxima semana, organizaremos el Concierto de Primavera de la Banda el martes, así como nuestra noche de premios de atletismo conocida como los Stormies el jueves. El viernes cerraremos la semana con nuestra Asamblea de Fin de Año para Seniors, la foto grupal de los Seniors con togas y birretes, la distribución del anuario y el picnic de los Seniors.

 

• Por último, la próxima semana es la última semana para que los estudiantes recuperen el tiempo por ausencias excesivas. Los estudiantes pueden asistir al almuerzo Bolt todos los días, así como a nuestras sesiones después de la escuela de martes a viernes. Las hojas de verificación de horas deben entregarse el viernes 31 de mayo.

• Attention parents of seniors.  An email was sent to your student's school email address with details about the Senior Awards night on May 22^nd at 6:30p.m.  Seniors will be asked to arrive at 6:00p.m. Wearing their senior gown (no caps), honors cords and stoles that they have or will receive prior to the 22nd.  Additional details will be provided in the email sent to seniors.

 

• Monday, May 20th we will host our rising 9th grade athletics information night for new 9th grade students interested in playing sports at WS next school year.  The event begins at 6:00 in our auditorium.

 

• Our Choral program will host their Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 21st at 7:00 in our auditorium.  The concert is free and open to all.

 

• Tomorrow will be our last Saturday Academy from 9:00 - 12:00 for students to make up time with excessive absences.  All make-up time verification sheets must be turned into the attendance office on or before May 31st.
