I am very honored and excited to be a Sea Turtle and the Counselor at South Lakes Elementary School. I am originally from Brooklyn NY and a graduate of Hunter College, NYC with Bachelor degrees in both Education and Communications. I also attended NC State University where I earned Master’s Degrees in both School Counseling and School Administration. I have been an educator for over 30 years in various roles: Teacher, Counselor, Human Resources Administrator and Assistant Principal. My husband, George and I have been married for 27 years and are the proud parents of one daughter who is a recent graduate of High Point University. I look forward to working with the South Lakes Elementary Family and Community.
I have been teaching ESL for 20 years. I love watching children learn English & grow in their language skills! I became a teacher because I love working with students and families. I enjoy traveling and hiking with my children. I also enjoy reading a good book.
I was born and raised on a family farm in Berrien Springs, Michigan (Home of the Shamrocks!). I have spent the last thirteen years teaching at Fuquay Varina High School where I have taught Science and Special Education while also coaching volleyball. As a teacher and coach, I believe that all students have the ability to be successful and that it takes a team effort to support students in and out of the classroom. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. My awesome wife, Heather, and I have three kids...Riley (9), Jackson (7), and Cooper (6). Sports and travel keep us busy throughout the year.
My name is Kelly Smith and I am a Literacy Coach. I have the awesome opportunity to work with two amazing schools, Ballentine Elementary and South Lakes Elementary. I have 26 years of experience in the field of education. Through the years, I have been a classroom teacher, instructional facilitator and an instructional coach. This year I have the privilege of supporting the classroom teachers as they strive to ensure quality literacy instruction for the students at both Ballentine Elementary and South Lakes Elementary. When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love to cook, go out on the boat and play with my grandchildren!
