Good Afternoon, Lion Families,

It was a pleasure to meet many of you at Meet the Teacher this week. We are excited to welcome our little ones back on Monday for the first day of school! To ensure we have an efficient first day, please review the information below and let me know if you have any questions.

1. SRES Family Handbook
   • ​​​Please take some time to review the detailed school policies and procedures outlined in our handbook at THIS LINK. This handbook includes important information about arrival and dismissal, including carpool. 
2. Required Health Assessment and Vaccinations for Kindergartners
   • ​​​State law requires every child entering public schools in North Carolina for the first time to receive a health assessment. The assessment must occur within 12 months prior to entering school. Your medical provider should provide a completed N.C. Health Assessment Form to the school on or before the child's first day of attendance. N.C. Health Assessment Forms are also available at Wake County schools, area doctors' offices or at the Wake County Health Department.
   • State law requires these vaccinations before a student enters kindergarten.

3. Staggered Entry for Pre-K Students 
   • Your child will attend one full day of school in a small group environment on either August 31st or September 1st. This will allow teachers time to assess social, physical, and emotional development, as well as basic literacy and math skills. This information will be used to create the most supportive learning environment for your child. Please be on the lookout for an email with your child's assigned staggered entry day. The first official day of school for all Pre-K students is Tuesday, September 5th.

   • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​During the first week of school, your child will attend one full day of school in a small group
     environment. This will allow teachers time to assess social, physical, and emotional
     development, as well as basic literacy and math skills. This information will be used to
     form class lists and create the most supportive learning environment for your child. Please be on the lookout for an email with your child's assigned staggered entry day.
5. Bus Transportation
   • ​​​​​​​If your child is enrolled, has a school assignment that provides for school bus transportation, and wishes to ride the bus on a regular basis, go to Bus Rider Registration to apply for the bus.​​​​​​​
   • If your child is currently registered for the bus but does not plan to ride the bus, please go to Decline Bus Transportation to cancel bus service.

   • We are excited to welcome you back! Below are descriptions of back to school events and flyers for the events. Please review the flyers carefully for specific grade level dates and times. ​​​​​​​

       • August 31st, 4:30-5:30 PM - Pre-K and Kindergarten Students
     • Community Back to School Bash - hosted by the YMCA! Come have fun, collect school supplies, and get information on family resources!
       • August 26th, 10 AM-3 PM​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
