Degrees and Certifications:
Hello Lead Mine students and parents! My name is Lisa Tomaszewski (but most students call me Mrs. T) and I am the Speech Language Pathologist at Lead Mine Elementary.
I am fortunate to be able to spend time with students from most classes throughout the building. I work directly with students and I also collaborate with staff to help improve students communication skills. Communication skills include not only speech articulation, but language and expression, alternative communication (pictures symbols, gestures and signs, communication devices, as well as words), language comprehension, and social language. In addition, I work with staff to ensure safe feeding practices in school for students with swallowing difficulties.
I am originally from New York. While most of my family is from the eastern side of the state, I grew up in Central New York and went to college in Western New York. I attended the State University of New York College at Geneseo for my undergraduate degree and the State University of New Your College at Buffalo for graduate school.
This is my 30th year as a Speech Language Pathologist. I have a wide variety of work experiences starting at The Children's Hospital of Buffalo after graduate school. Prior to my current work at Lead Mine Elementary I worked in rehabilitation facilities/clinics, private practice, and school districts both in NY and NC with pediatric populations including birth-3, preschool, and school aged students.
My family moved to North Carolina in 2000. We spent most of our years in NC in the Charlotte area which is where my 2 children grew up and consider home. My daughter, Emma, is currently working on her doctorate in Audiology, and my son, Daniel, is working towards his undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering with a graduate degree in Sustainable Engineering. I am also the proud mom of several Australian Shepherds. We have trained one as a certified therapy dog and are working on certifying 2 more of our pack.
While we now call Raleigh "home", my husband and I can't help remaining as loyal Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabers fans! We will, however, cheer on the Panthers and the Canes (as long as they are not playing a team from Buffalo!)
