“A person may make mistakes, but isn’t a failure until he starts blaming someone else. We must believe in ourselves, and somewhere along the road of life....we must meet someone who sees greatness in us, expects it from us, and lets us know it. It is the golden key of success."
-Coach Don Meyer
I was born to be a teacher! I come from a village of educators where I was nurtured, celebrated and expected to be a lifelong learner!
I am a National Board Certified teacher having earned my undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, and my master’s degree and AIG certification from East Carolina University. I have the unique distinction of being both a Tar Heel and a Pirate!!
As the oldest of 3 children, and a Grandma’s girl - on both sides - I was labeled an ‘old soul’, and am often the nurturer in my family. It is true that children attract other children! Having 4 of my own, I am most comfortable with groups of children around me. I began my teaching journey in northern New Jersey in an urban setting; yet returning to North Carolina was the best decision I’ve ever made both personally and professionally. I have had the pleasure of navigating the Wake County Public School System both as a parent and as a teacher; and I feel honored to have ‘landed’ at Oak Grove. Formerly a Track 4, 5th grade teacher, I transitioned into my AIG role in 2010. I consider myself a differentiation specialist where I co-plan, co-teach, facilitate enrichment activities in English/Language Arts and Math for K-5 students, and provide AIG identification testing!
Oak Grove is a great place for children, and I love being a part of the Oak Grove family!
