Mrs. GiGi Sammons
Hello, my name is GiGi Sammons. I am the physical education teacher at Oak Grove. I have been teaching for 17 years and this is my 13th year at Oak Grove. I received my B.S. in Physical Education K-12 at Barton College in Wilson, NC. I began my teaching career at Cary High School where I also coached Volleyball and Softball. I spent 4 years there and decided to transfer. In 2004, I started teaching here at Oak Grove and in 2006 received National Board Certification. I love teaching elementary school physical education.
Since I started teaching elementary school, I have been part of the North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and Sport Management (NCAAHPERD-SM). I am now working with this organization to help promote a healthy living through the American Heart Association and Joints Projects programs with Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart. Each year the students get to learn about the Jump Rope for Heart Program and how to help save lives. Our students are very giving and we have managed to raise over $40,000.00 in the past few years to help save lives.
In 2013, I received my M.S. in Phyiscal Education from North Carolina Central University and have recently renewed my National Board Certification. When I am not busy with school, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I have been married for 15 years and we have two girls one in 6th and the other in 3rd. We also have many pets running around the house. I am looking forward to a great year helping our students become physically active for a lifetime.
