Mrs. Katie Yeckel
The 2017-2018 school year marks my seventh year at Oak Grove. I was born in Kansas City, MO where I lived until my family relocated to Charlotte, NC when I was in middle school. Since that time I have lived in Chapel Hill, NC; Des Moines, IA; Wilmington and Carolina Beach, NC; and Chicago, IL until I moved back to North Carolina in 2007 for the third and final time to be close to my family. I received my undergraduate degree in management and society from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and after graduation I held a variety of positions which included: editor, writer and photographer for a newspaper; small business owner; retail manager and consultant at a learning center where I worked with children with learning disabilities. I’ve held positions I enjoyed on a number of levels but it was my work with children at the learning center that helped me realize that I needed to be in a career working with children, which led me back to school to get my Masters of Art in Elementary Education.
In teaching I have found my true passion and feel extremely fortunate to be able to come to work every day at such an incredible school, where I have loved working with so many amazing students and their families. My lifelong love of learning was nurtured from an early age, both in my family and school environment, and it is my goal to try to inspire my students to constantly seek knowledge and have fun while they are learning.
In my spare time I enjoy weight lifting, cooking, reading, and hanging out with family and friends, especially my two year old daughter Isabella.
