    Hello PUE Families,

Thank you to everyone who helped celebrate our wonderful IAs for Instructional Appreciation Day! We are so appreciative of all they do to make PUE a special place to work and learn.

Starting Monday, September 15, 2025, Pleasant Union is launching a centralized absence/attendance email address. ALL parents are to email their child’s absence reason to: Attendance531@wcpss.net. The student’s first and last name, child’s track, and teacher must be included in the email. For a medical-related appointment during school hours, the dated doctor or appt note is necessary to be counted as an excused tardy. A doctor’s note is also necessary for 3 consecutive days of absences due to illness. Absences will only be excused when proper documentation is received by the attendance office within 48 hours of the student's return to school. For more info on attendance, read School Board Policy 4400: Attendance.

    Hello PUE Families,

Happy track-in day for our Tr. 2 families! We hope you had a great return to school today. Enjoy your well-deserved track-out Tr. 1. We will see you back at school on 9/29.

Don't forget that next Friday, 9/12 is Instructional Assistant Appreciation Day. Please join us in celebrating our wonderful IAs and all they do to support our school. We genuinely could not do it without them!

For those who missed it, the WCPSS board of education officially approved the motion to transition PUE to a track-4 only school calendar in the school year 2027-2028 (2 years from now). While this does not have immediate impacts, we want to ensure that all families have plenty of notice prior to the change. More information will be distributed as we get closer to the transition.

Finally, please join us this Sunday, 9/7 from 1pm-2pm, as our PTA hosts a play date and general membership meeting. Kona Ice will be present and we will have yard games and sidewalk chalk out for our families. The PTA meeting will be very quick, but crucial as we approve the budget for the 25-26 school year.

    Hello PUE Families,

It's hard to believe that we have already made it to the end of August! A reminder that Monday, 9/1 is the Labor Day holiday, so there is no school for staff or students. We hope everyone is able to enjoy the 3-day weekend!

Next Thursday, 9/4 is a track-out day for Tr. 1 and the end of their first 9 weeks. We hope you have a great track-out and look forward to seeing you return on Monday, 9/29. We look forward to Tr. 2 returning next Friday, 9/5.

As a reminder, the Board of Education is considering a calendar change for PUE starting in the 2027-28 school year. The Board of Education will vote on the proposed calendar conversion on Sep. 2, 2025. The meeting will be livestreamed on the WCPSS YouTube channel. We appreciate all who participated in the July virtual information sessions that the county hosted. These sessions provided families with an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the calendar change process, and provide input. If you were unable to attend, you can now watch a recording (Pleasant Union Info Session – July 29) Recordings and presentation materials are available at: wcpss.net/calendarconversion. Thank you for staying informed and for being part of this important conversation about the future of PUE.

    Hello PUE Families,

We have had an exciting week at PUE. For those who have not heard, Ms. McNeill, our assistant principal was named a finalist for WCPSS Assistant Principal of the Year! She is one of five APs in the county to be selected for this honor, out of over 400 assistant principals. We are so proud and grateful to have such an amazing support here at PUE!

As a reminder, next Monday, 8/25 is the first day of school for traditional calendar schools. This means you will likely notice an increase in traffic, so please plan accordingly. For those who use the bus, please be aware that bus times will likely shift some. Please make sure you have the Here Comes the Bus app downloaded so that you can track where your child's bus is live.

    Hello PUE Families,

Happy track-out day for track 2! We hope you have an amazing break and we will see you back on Friday, 9/5. We look forward to track 3 returning to school on Monday, 8/18.

A reminder that tomorrow, Friday, 8/15 is a teacher workday, so there is no school for students.

We are having a PUE Spirit Event at Goodberrys next Wednesday, 8/20 from 2-10pm. Make sure to mention PUE when you make your purchase so that a portion of the sale gets donated to our outstanding PTA.

Finally, one last plea before traditional schools begin returning. If you have not done so already, please submit your information for a background check to volunteer. This process must be completed every year, so even if you were approved last year, you need to resubmit. Even if you are unsure if you plan on volunteering, it doesn't hurt to submit now before traditional schools return. Links and information on the process can be found here.

    Hello PUE Families,

We have had a great first week of Track 4 returning for the school year. We look forward to all of our new track 4 kindergarteners starting on Monday, 8/4. We appreciate everyone's patience during carpool as our new students adjust to carpool procedures.

If you have not done so already, please submit your information for a background check to volunteer. Finally, I wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to our PTA and wonderful PUE community for supporting our school with the purchase and installation of whiteboards in every classroom. The last of the boards were installed this week. Our teachers and students are thrilled with the new equipment, and it would not have been possible without the PTA's support.

    Hello PUE Families,

Hard to believe that we are already 3 weeks into school. And just like that, it's time for our first track-out. We hope track 3 has a great break and we will see you back at school on Monday, 8/18.

We look forward to Track 4's first day of school on Monday, 7/28. Track 4 parents, please remember that you may walk your students to class on your child's first day only. Please do not park in the bus loop or carpool loop. After you have escorted your child to their class, please quickly exit so that others may find parking spaces. Other tracks should plan for carpool to take a little longer next week as track 4 returns.

Recently you should have received an email from WCPSS notifying you of a possible calendar change two years from now during the 27-28 school year. The board is considering moving PUE from multi-track year-round to traditional. As a part of this process, district personnel will be hosting a virtual information session for parents on 7/29 at 6pm. District staff will be available to answer your questions. The session will be recorded and posted on our website for those unable to attend live. The link for the virtual session is located here. You can also submit thoughts on the change in their virtual forum on Thought Exchange. I encourage you to make your voice heard so that the board of education understands our community's thoughts on this possible change.

Posted by Bryan Tunstall on 7/11/2025 4:00:00 PM

    Hello PUE Families,

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! We are excited to begin another wonderful year with our amazing PUE Community. Welcome to all of our new families joining this year, and welcome back to our returning students. Here is a link to the updated parent/student handbook that has many procedures and guidelines for our school. Your child's teacher is also a great resource if you have additional questions. Our Open House for Track 1,2, & 3 will be on 7/24 from 5pm-6:30pm. Please drop by and meet your child's teacher anytime during Open House.

I will send a weekly newsletter out on Fridays at 4:30pm every week. If you, or someone you know with a student, does not receive these, please reach out to the front desk so that we can ensure that your email is correct in our system.

We appreciate all of our families continuing to ensure that you have the correct carpool tag in your vehicle when picking your child up in carpool. As a reminder, if you do not have the official tag, you will need to park and come into the front office to pick up your student. We understand this can be a hassle, especially when grandparents and family friends are picking up students, but it is an important safety measure in place to protect all of our students.

For those who don't know WCPSS and all other NC public schools have begun the transition to our new student information system, Infinite Campus. Formerly, we used PowerSchool which has been officially discontinued. Due to this massive shift to a new system, there will likely be hiccups and small delays for things that we normally have very streamlined. We greatly appreciate your patience as we, and the rest of the state, learn how to grapple with the new system and workout any bugs. This week you should have received an email encouraging you to set up a parent account in Infinite Campus. More information can be found here on Infinite Campus.

Finally, if you have not done so already, please submit your information for a background check to volunteer. This process must be completed every year, so even if you were approved last year, you need to resubmit. Even if you are unsure if you plan on volunteering, it doesn't hurt to submit now before traditional schools return. Links and information on the process can be found here.
