      Principal Message

      Dear Families,

It is with the heaviest of hearts knowing that we have an elementary school and community who is grieving the tragic loss of life. It is just beyond anything that makes sense. Please know that we have safety protocols in place to ensure that no one enters the building who has not been pre approved. All doors from the outside are locked. We had a school-wide lockdown drill about 6 weeks ago. Police and Law Enforcement were on campus during the drill. Our staff did an excellent job and knows what to do to keep all children safe.

Safety is my number 1 priority. Mrs. Crane and I take this responsibility very seriously.

Here are some tips from our Student Service Department that I have shared with staff and you can also follow:

      · Try and keep routines as normal as possible. Young people gain security from the predictability of routine, including attending school.

      · Reassure children that they are safe.

      · Create time to listen and be available to talk.

      · Be honest with young people and share with them as much information as they are developmentally able to handle.

      · If a student seems distressed about a lockdown, drill, or school incident, send them to the school counselor, psychologist, or social worker for support

Here are resources that may help you with talking to your child:. · Helping Students After a School Shooting · Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers

Please know that our hearts are heavy with yours and together we need to keep our students reassured that they are safe here. Thank you.

      With gratitude,

      Sherri Miller

      Commemorative Brick Opportunity:

Parents, grandparents, and friends of our school can purchase bricks in honor or memory of students, family, teachers, and staff. Bricks make a wonderful graduation gift for a 5th grade student. All engraved bricks will be installed in the patio surrounding the flagpole (bricks will not be installed before graduation). At this time, brick supplies are limited - only @ 41 left for current 5th graders only! We are working hard to find another place on the Lacy campus to install bricks for next year. Stay tuned.

If you would like to purchase a brick for $125.00, you may click here to purchase online through MemberHub by Friday, May 20th. If you have any questions, contact Toni-Ann Herwig (919) 607-7617.
