Principal Message - March 22
Posted by Wade Martin on 3/22/2024Hello this is Wade Martin calling from WSHS with the Friday Storm Report.
I will begin with a few updates our PTSA has asked me to share:
-
The PTSA is looking for families to participate in the International Festival Food Court on 4/4. Take us on a tour with sample sized tastes from your culture or a culture you love. Contact the PTSA to get more information or to sign up to provide food.
-
The PTSA is hosting a Distracted Driving Event on 4/19 for all Juniors and Seniors during Bolt Lunch. Please encourage your students to attend. The FVPD is bringing materials and demonstration vehicles, impaired vision goggles and the Seat Belt Convincer. Students will receive more information in school including a waiver form for the Seat Belt Convincer if they want to try it.
-
Do you own a business or work in a Skilled Trades field? Student Services is hosting a Trades Fair for our Juniors and Seniors on 4/24 and we are looking for companies who would like to set up a table to talk with our kids about their industry and potentially offer job shadowing, internship or employment opportunities. Contact Mrs. Gates or the PTSA for more information or to sign up!
-
The PTSA still has senior signs available - order online to celebrate your graduate.
-
The next round of sales to etch your students name in WSHS history is open. Place your order to add their name to the Storm Legacy Wall!
I have a message from our student services department:
Parents of Seniors! We have begun calculating our Class of 2024 scholarship total and we need your help. If your senior has received ANY scholarship offer, please bring a copy of the offer to Student Services as soon as possible so that we can add it to our Senior Class total. This is for ALL scholarships regardless of if your senior has accepted it or not. Let's start this tradition off with a scholarship total so big that it will be difficult for the future senior classes to match! Our school total also gets reported to Wake County, so let's show them that the Class of 2024 is coming in like a STORM!
Lastly, have a great week off for Spring Break! If you are heading out of town for the break, we wish you safe travels. See you back on April 1st, and that’s no April fools' joke. Go Storm!

In case you had not heard, Prom Applications are now available on our school website homepage. Tickets can only be purchased by Juniors and Seniors. 9th and 10th grade students can not purchase tickets unless they are the guest of an 11th or 12th grader. TIckets will be sold during BOLT lunch on March 19, 20, 21 and April 3, 4 & 9th. Tickets will not be sold online this year. Students must have their application and guest forms completed and ready to turn in at the time of ticket purchasing. There will be no additional sales of prom tickets after April 9th.
-
It’s only one week until Spring Break. Remember, no school from March 25 - 29th.
-
Just a quick reminder to share with your family and friends who attend athletic and arts events that only clear bags are permitted for spectators. We are running into grandmas who are upset about having to put their bags back in their cars because they did not know about the new rules. Thank you all for your help with the implementation of this new rule.
Make it a great weekend and Go Storm!

Attention parents of AP students. AP Exam opt out forms were sent home with your students this past week for Spring AP Classes. All students in an AP Class will be ordered an exam and be administered to AP Students in the beginning of May. If you do not want your student to take the exam, the form will need to be filled out and returned to Amy Gregorio in Student Services by March 13, 2024. You do NOT need to take any action if your student plans to take the exam. We encourage all students to take the exam. If an exam is ordered for your student, and the student does not take the exam, then a $40 non-used exam fee will be charged to you. If you have any questions, please call Amy Gregorio.
-
Just a quick reminder to parents - NHS applications are due on Saturday, March 9th at midnight. The google form application can be found on our website under students > activities.
-
So far the new WCPSS high school spectator clear bag rules are going pretty well. Please remember that only one clear bag and/or a small clear clutch bag are permitted. Please share the new rules with all family and friends that may be coming to sporting or arts events to see your student play or perform. They have not received communication from our school or WCPSS and will only know if you pass it on to them.
-
The Willow Spring Theatre department is excited for Seussical , our spring musical, which runs next week, Thursday - Saturday. Tickets are still available. We hope you can make it to the show!

Vamos tormenta.

We have updated our spring testing calendar and as a result the ACT administration date has been changed from March 13 and 14 to April 11 and 12.

WCPSS is beginning a new online school payment service called SchoolCash Online. All new online payment activities moving forward will be processed through this new system. Existing payments such as parking, lunch passes and class dues will continue in the current system (OSP) until the end of the school year. Prior to using the new SchoolCash Online payment system, parents will need to set up an account. The directions for doing so will all be posted to our website under families.
-
I would like to remind all of our families beginning on Friday, March 1st, at all high school athletic and arts events, spectors are required to use a clear bag in order to enter the event. The specific details of the new WCPSS policy are posted on our home page under Storm News. Regular purses, backpacks, duffle bags, camera bags, fanny packs and drawstring bags are no longer permitted access to spector events. We thank you greatly for your anticipated cooperation as we begin implementing this new policy.
-
I would also like to remind all families that there is no school on March 5th and March 11th as they are teacher workdays.
Thank you as always for your continued support of our school community. Make it a great night. Go Storm!

I have an important message from our student services department. It is time to begin the process of registration for the 2024-2025 school year! Students will be attending homeroom on Thursday February 22nd to receive registration materials. This packet includes information that you will need to help your student choose courses for next school year as it includes a credit detail page of the courses your student has completed, a course list for each grade level, registration instructions, and the dates that second period classes will be going to the media center to input their courses. Students will be choosing classes for both semesters next year including core classes and electives as well as 3 alternate elective classes. Curriculum night on February 22 is a great resource for students and parents to ask questions and get more information about courses we offer. We hope to see you all at this important event for rising 9th - 12th grade families.
-
Tonight is our last regular season basketball game against SE Raleigh. Many of our winter sport seniors will be recognized at the event. We hope to see you at the game tonight!
-
I would just like to remind families also that there is no school on Monday and Tuesday, February 19th & 20th.
-
Lastly, interim reports have been shared with students this week. Please be sure to check with your student to see how their new semester classes are going. If you have any questions, please reach out to their teacher.
Make it a great weekend and Go Storm!

2 Hour Delay Jan 17
Posted by Wade Martin on 1/16/20242 Hours Delay - Jan 17
Good evening WSHS families,
In case you have not heard, WCPSS has announced a 2 hour delay for tomorrow, January 17 due to threats of black ice early in the morning. Tomorrow is the first day of our semester exams for students. Our testing window will push back the two hours and will take place from 9:25 to 1:25. Students should try to have a good breakfast as we will not be able to break for lunch during the testing window. Students are also encouraged if possible to bring a snack to eat once testing is complete in their testing room. We can not release students to the cafeteria, until all testing is complete. We will provide a grab and go lunch from 1:25 to 1:45 and then our buses will depart campus. Carpool parents can plan for dismissal at 1:30. We wish all of our students the best of luck with their first exam tomorrow! This is certainly not ideal, but we will make the best of it.
Thanks as always for your support of our students and school. Make it a great night.

I hope that everyone remembers that Monday is a holiday and there is no school. Tuesday is the last day of the first semester. Please encourage your students to begin looking forward to their exams that start on Wednesday and to use their time over the three-day weekend to start getting ready for exams.

Principal Message - Jan 5
Posted by Wade Martin on 1/5/2024Hello, this is Wade Martin calling from WSHS with the Friday Storm report. Let me begin by wishing all of our families a Happy New Year. We have some really important items to share with you as we close out this semester.
-
Our Semester exam schedule is posted on our website. Please remember we do not allow student checkouts during the required testing window each day so please plan appointments accordingly.
-
For our students with excessive absences, we have two Saturdays left to buy back your needed time. Students need to report to the cafeteria from 9:00 - 12:00 for Saturday Academy if they are needing this opportunity. Failure to meet our attendance guidelines will cause students to lose class credit.
-
Student services will be accepting requests for Schedule Corrections for the second semester from January 5 until January 12. The corrections will be made for missing a class with a "hole" in your schedule, to increase rigor (if there is space available) or if a student has not met the prerequisites for the class in which they are currently scheduled. Elective changes will not be approved. Students can enter requests on the link found on the website and they must use his/her Wakeid to access the document.
Any Junior or Senior participating in CCP who is needing early release, please submit your early release forms with your CCP courses to Student Services as soon as possible. Release periods are also dependent on space availability.
-
We invite all junior parents to come 6:00 - 6:30 on February 7th prior to our Meet the Teacher Open House for a presentation from our Student Services Staff which includes planning for senior year and beyond! Topics will cover career and college options as well as what juniors need to be doing now to prepare. Put this date on your calendars now.
-
The Intervention Team will provide after-school sessions next Tuesday, January 9, to Friday, January 12, for students with ARP’s to complete missing assignments or to make up for excessive absences. The sessions will be held in room 3302 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Students must arrive before 2:35 pm. Transportation will not be provided; please be here no later than 5 pm to pick up your student if they plan to attend. For questions, contact Dr. Cagle, Ms. Raiford, or Mr. Smith.
Thanks and have a great weekend. Go Storm!

Principal Message - Dec 15
Posted by Wade Martin on 12/15/2023Hello, this is Wade Martin calling from WSHS with the Friday Storm Report.
-
Senior families, it's time to purchase yearbook recognition ads for your students who are graduating this year. This is a great way to showcase everything they have accomplished during their time as a high school student. If you are interested, locate the "Yearbook" tab under "Activities" on the school website.
-
Students and parents who have received notifications about excess absences are reminded that we will be offering Saturday Academy this Saturday from 9:00 - 12:00. This is a great opportunity to buy back some time and get missing assignments completed. Students should be sure to bring their Chromebooks with them when they report to the cafeteria.
-
I would also like to again remind parents that when students are absent from school, and there is a lot of crude going around, please send in a note documenting the absence that includes the days as well as a contact number for you. These things help us code the absence correctly as an excused absence. Remember, if an email is easier, please see our website under Families and Attendance for these directions.
-
I would like to also provide a reminder to all families that shortly after the holiday break we complete our Semester 1 exams.. Exams are January 17th - January 24th. Our exams will be by period. Students can not be checked out of school in the morning during the testing window of time. Please check your calendars for upcoming appointments and plan accordingly.
With the holidays just around the corner, I want to wish all of our families a happy and safe holiday break. Thanks for all that you do to support our school. Go Storm.

Vamos tormenta!
