Middle School Program Referral Process
Mt. Vernon at a Glance
Below are one page documents that give a brief overview of Mt. Vernon Middle.
Students referred to Mt. Vernon are generally not finding academic success at their base schools. They may also be disorganized, distracted, and have difficulties during unstructured times/areas at their base schools. Students who benefit from Mt. Vernon have demonstrated a history of building positive relationships with teachers in their schools and have a desire to improve their circumstances. Our middle school program emphasizes strengthening basic academic skills. Academic remediation is available for students in the areas of Math and Reading.
Students must be referred by their base WCPSS Middle School. Click here to view the list of schools who refer to Mt. Vernon.
Base school counselors and/or social workers must complete all portions of the application through OASIS.
If you have questions, please contact Ms. Brown, School Counselor, at 919-233-4313 ext 27073 or email@example.com.
Once a referral is received, the Mt. Vernon intake committee will meet to discuss the referral and determine acceptance. The dates for intake hearings can be found at the link below. Our current acceptance rate is approximately 90%.
If accepted, students will be scheduled for an orientation session. Students and their parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to attend the orientation session on the student's first day of school. The student should be in dress code, ready to start school on that day. Once enrolled, students will attend Mt. Vernon for the remainder of the current school year.
