Posted by Andrew Livengood on 10/23/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for October 23.

  • This Week: Tomorrow is a Teacher Workday, and Track 4 returns on Tuesday. Track 3 is now tracked-out and returns on Nov. 14.
  • Social Media Presentation for Parents: Our counselors will be doing another presentation for parents regarding the latest social media trends and how to keep students safe. It will be Thursday at 6PM in the auditorium. All parents are invited.
  • Track 4 Report Cards: Will go home on Thursday.
  • School Tours: If you know a family who might be interested in sending their child(ren) to Pine Hollow next year, please encourage them to sign up for a tour using this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0c4ea9a62da13-phms.
  • Attention 8th Grade Families: There are many high school options in Wake County. Please encourage your child to join us in the LLC during flight school to learn more about specific Early College & Magnet School Programs. Please click here for the school names & visit dates to PHMS. WCPSS will also host a Magnet/Early College Fair on October 29. Please visit wcpss.net/magnet for more information. Application Window: Early College Oct 14-Dec 14, Magnet Schools Oct 14-Jan 25
  • Community Reads: As part of our PHMS Community Reads book, Front Desk by Kelly Yang, the planning committee is hoping to find a guest speaker to come talk with our students, their families, and teachers on November 15th after school in the PHMS Library (3:15-4:15pm). We are open to ideas, but Chinese Calligraphy was an initial idea as a connection for students and would be a great tie in with the culture of the book. We expect 20-30 students to be in attendance. If you or someone you know would be open to helping us with this event, please email Kristen Ziller at kziller@wcpss.net.
  • Fun Run: Don't forget to sign up for the annual Food Drive Fun Run on October 29th at 9am on the PHMS track! You can register to participate for $10 through October 27th. As always, all funds will benefit the Food Bank of NC and contribute to the Students Against Hunger Food Drive competition. Registration is online.  Please visit bit.ly/phmsfunrun22 for more information. We look forward to your support in this fun event! Email Mrs. West with any questions.
  • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams: Parents, last week our Pilots got a win, a tie, and a loss to Durant.  This week we welcome the always tough Wakefield Wolves to our place.  We look forward to the amazing continued support our fans give.
    • Basketball is right around the corner. The DEADLINE to be completely registered and approved is Nov 10. Tryouts will begin on Nov 17.  Our details for those days are almost complete and you should see them posted this week.
    • The athletic website has changed to a different platform. I am still learning how to use it and am finding it less user friendly than the last version.  I am sure it will get easier as I get used to it. https://wakecountyathleticzone.com/pine-hollow/
  • Teacher Recognition Program:  Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.
  • From the PTSA:
  • Have a great week and remember, at Pine Hollow Middle School the sky is the limit!!
