• Weekly Message for 9-12-21

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 9/12/2021

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for September 12.

    • This Week: It’s a five-day week for Tracks 3 & 4. Track 1 is tracked out through Oct. 1 and returns on Oct. 4.
    • COVID Protocols and Contact Tracing: When we are notified a student was on-campus and tested positive for COVID, we immediately conduct contact tracing. For more info regarding COVID procedures/protocols, and to see the dashboard listing COVID cases at WCPSS schools, go to this website: https://www.wcpss.net/covid19.
    • How To Get Parent Portal Access: All parents are encouraged to get a Parent Portal account so you can monitor your student’s grades and attendance. Instructions on getting an account are on our website under the “Parents” tab or click here.
    • Volunteer Registration: Each year volunteers must reactivate their volunteer status in order to be able to continue to serve in this capacity. Individuals previously approved must reactivate by 4PM on October 29. It is possible to be approved after this date, but it costs the district more money and often there is a delay. If you have any interest in serving as a volunteer this year, please renew by Oct. 29. Volunteer registration can be done at any school in the district, but it cannot be done at home.
    • Teacher Recognition Program:  Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our new Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.

  • Weekly Message for 8-22-21

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 8/22/2021

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for August 22.

    • This Week: Track 3 returns to school tomorrow and it’s a five-day week for Tracks 1, 3 & 4.  Please be prepared for a longer wait in carpool as all students will be in school for the next three weeks. Please also be prepared for delays with buses since traditional calendar schools start this week.
    • Picture Day: Strawbridge Studios will be here on Thursday to take fall pictures. Each student will have their picture taken for the yearbook and parents can also pre-purchase a picture packet. Track 1&4 students received a packet last week and Track 3 students will get one tomorrow. You can also see the attachment in the weekly message or visit our website for more info.
    • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams:
      • Parents, The deadline for registration for Fall sports is just 2 days away.  We still have 75 students that are NOT approved.  If you used your email as a username for DF, then you will get a confirmation when you are approved, otherwise you will not.  Many of you have started the process but have not finished or resubmitted the correct documents.  Just because you submitted documents does not mean they were complete or correct.  You should check to see if your forms had to be rejected.  I understand this is a new platform, so contact me directly with any questions.
      • Directions on how to use DragonFly are attached to the weekly message.
      • Schools were informed last week that students who took 3 core classes in the spring only had to pass 2 core classes for the second semester in order to be eligible this fall. This is a change that results in more students being academically eligible.
      • There will be no afternoon activity buses for the time being due to the shortage of available drivers.
      • See these links to stay up-to-date on PH Athletics:

  • Weekly Message for 8-15-21

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 8/15/2021

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for August 15.

    • This Week: It’s a five-day week for Tracks 1 & 4. Track 3 students return on 8-23.
    • I-Ready: We will be implementing a program called i-Ready® Diagnostic & Instruction this year that will help teachers assess the Reading needs of your student and monitor progress throughout the school year. It will also provide differentiated, individualized online and/or classroom instruction based on the skills that each student needs. Depending on their track, the i-Ready Diagnostic will be given three times during the school year: August, January/February, and April/May. The results of the adaptive assessment provide teachers with an instructional course of action personalized for each student. Please encourage your student to do their best on each non-graded assessment so that we have a true understanding of their current Reading proficiencies. If you have any questions, please contact our Instructional Facilitator, Julie Stern, at jstern@wcpss.net.
    • COVID Protocols and Contact Tracing: When we are notified a student was on-campus and tested positive for COVID, we immediately conduct contact tracing. The CDC defines “exposure” as within six feet for fifteen minutes or more over a 24 hour time period. If your student meets the definition of having been exposed, we will contact you ASAP. We will also give you (either email or hardcopy) a handout that central services gives us letting you know when your student can return. If your student is fully vaccinated (meaning they have had both shots and the second shot was at least 14 days prior to exposure) they will not have to miss any school. But we will need to verify they are fully vaccinated so having your student take a picture of their vaccination card and keeping that on their phone (if they have one) is something you may want to consider.

If you have any interest in serving as a volunteer this year, please renew by Oct. 29. Volunteer registration can be done at any school in the district, but it cannot be done at home.
    • PTSA Spirit Wear: Please be aware that the PTSA maintains spirit wear all year long. They have a variety of reasonably priced tee shirts, car magnets, string bags, tumblers, etc. Orders are placed and paid for online and then items are delivered to your student within the next few days. To see what’s available and/or place an order, go to the “Parents” tab on our website and click “PTSA” then the link for spirit wear or click here.
    • 7th Grade Tdap and Meningococcal Vaccines: By law, all 7th graders must provide proof they have received these vaccines. • Band and Chorus: We have space available in 6th grade band for any student who is interested in taking band this year! Please email your child’s counselor if you are interested. We also have space available in 6th, 7th and 8th grade chorus for any student who is interested in taking chorus this year! Please email your child’s counselor if you are interested. As a reminder, Ms. Muhs (lmuhs@wcpss.net) is the track 1 counselor, Mr. Febres (pfebres@wcpss.net) is the track 3 counselor, and Mr. Martin (jwmartin@wcpss.net) is the track 4 counselor.
    • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams: Parents, We are 9 days away from the deadline to be approved in DragonFLy for FALL sports.  Currently there about 90 of you that started the process but are still missing documents or have not resubmitted documents that were rejected.  Failure to meet deadline will mean missing out on tryouts.  I have not received any information at this point if there will be any changes to eligibility rules for this season.  Currently you still must have passed all 3 core classes from last semester and not miss more than 14 days, excused or unexcused.
    • From the PTSA:
      • General PTSA Meeting August 23rd at 7 pm to be held virtually. The goole meet link will be sent out a few days before the meeting. We have to make sure each attendee is a paid member, so please sign up on our sign up genius  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B044FAFA629A1FB6-ptsa

  • Weekly Message for 8-8-21

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 8/8/2021

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for August 8.

    • This Week: It’s a five-day week for Tracks 1 & 4. Track 3 students return on 8-23.
    • Virtual Academy: Parents with students in VA this year should be able to see your child’s schedule in Power School. Your child’s teachers should contact your child via their WCPSS student email account with information specific to their individual class. Last week was orientation and classes are scheduled to begin this week.
    • Automatic Calls When Students Are Absent: We have heard from several parents who have a student in quarantine due to possible COVID exposure that they are getting the auto phone calls letting them know their child was absent from school. Unfortunately, we cannot stop those calls as they are automatically generated each afternoon and go out to all students who were marked absent that day.
• How To Get Parent Portal Access: All parents are encouraged to get a Parent Portal account so you can monitor your student’s grades and attendance. Instructions on getting an account are on our website under the “Parents” tab or click here.
    • 8th Grade Field Trip Interest Survey: All 8th grade parents are asked to please complete this brief interest survey regarding an overnight field trip in February: https://forms.gle/tsBmdhEC4aXQfS6j8 Your response will be very helpful in planning and gauging interest in an overnight trip.

    • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams: Parents, it was great to see some of you virtually on Thursday.  Please remember that things are still fluid with athletics, and as soon as I get changes, I will be sharing that information through the platforms that I have stated before. I am still holding off on season passes for the moment but will let you know as soon as they are up for sale.  We have started making morning announcements and utilizing the athletic bulletin board on the way to the gym.  We are working hard to get information out there, but it is a two-way street.  I do not have any new information at this time if the eligibility rules will be altered in any way for this season.  Currently Pine Hollow Students needed to pass all 3 of their core classes from 2nd semester of the previous school year.  If you have moved to Wake from another district it will be helpful if you have a report card from your previous school.  Sometimes information from other districts does not arrive in a timely manner, despite the invention of computers. Please be sure to check back into DragonFly to see your status bar to make sure it is at 100%.

  • Weekly Message for 8-1-21

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 8/1/2021

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for August 1.

    • This Week: We look forward to welcoming our Track 4 students tomorrow! Please be especially patient in carpool as it will take our Track 4 families a few days to settle into “the groove” and then things will return to normal. Our Track 1 and 3 families quickly got the hang of it, and I expect our Track 4 families will too.
    • Virtual Academy: Parents with students in VA this year should now be able to see your child’s schedule in Power School. Your child’s teachers should contact your child via their WCPSS student email account with information specific to their individual class. Please be aware that some classes have not yet had a teacher assigned to them which means it will be a couple more days before your child’s teacher starts their class.
If you have not already done so, please email our data manager (yssanders@wcpss.net) with proof your child has had these vaccinations. We are required to exclude students from attending school until they provide this documentation. The deadline is August 9 for students on Track 1&3 and September 3 for students on Track 4. This is not a PHMS or WCPSS policy but a NC General Statute that all schools must follow.
    • Parent Portal and Grades in PowerSchool: Grades and attendance are now being entered in PS for students on Track 1&3. For students on Track 4, teachers must wait until the 11th day of school to begin entering grades and attendance just as the Track 1&3 teachers did. For more information on the Parent Portal (which you need to see grades and attendance in PS), go to our website and click the “Parents” tab then “Home Base/Power School/Parent Portal” or click here.
Adams:
