Posted by Andrew Livengood on 6/19/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for June 19.

    • This Week: It’s a five-day week for students on Track 3 and 4.
    • EOG/EOC Testing Schedule: EOG testing is now finished for most 6th and 7th graders. Any students who were absent last Thursday and/or Friday will make-up their EOG this week. 8th graders will be taking their Science EOG tomorrow.
    • EOG Score Reports: Track 3 and 4 students (except those who were absent and still need a make-up test) will be given a letter on Wednesday to take home and give parents regarding their EOG scores. If your student scores Level NP (not proficient) on an EOG, they will receive another letter telling you if they are eligible to remediate and re-test. Please complete that form at the bottom, sign it, and return it to school by the end of the week so we know whether or not your child will be re-testing.
    • Last Day of School: As a reminder, the last two days of this school year are being repurposed for all year-round schools in the district. Therefore, the last day of school for Track 3 and 4 students is now Monday, June 27. The only students who will come to school on June 28 and June 29 are those who are remediating/re-testing.
    • Library Book Return📚: All library books are due back to the library by Tuesday, June 21st. Encourage your student to check their Destiny Discover library account in their WakeID portal and return all library books. Students are to keep their WCPSS Chromebook and bring it with them when they return at the start of the new school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Kristen Ziller, school librarian (kziller@wcpss.net).
    • Attention Rising 9th Graders Going to LRHS: Camp Pride will be held on Tuesday, August 23. See the attached flyer for more info or click here
    • School Meals: All students currently receive free school meals supported by federal funding due to the pandemic. This funding is set to end on June 30, 2022. In order to receive free or reduced-price meals for next school year, families need to submit a meal benefits application. Click here for more info.
    • Attention 6th Grade Parents: State law requires all rising 7th graders to have a Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine. Students on Track 1 & 3 have until Aug. 7, and Track 4 students have until Sept. 3. Click here for more info. Immunization records can be emailed to Ms. Thomas, our data manager, at bwthomas@wcpss.net or mailed to the school to her attention.
    • Yearbooks: We have a few extras for sale in the main office. They are $45, cash only.
    • Teacher Recognition Program:  Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our new Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.
    • From the PTSA:
      • The final general meeting of the year will be Monday, June 23 at 7PM via Google Meet. Please click this link to RSVP so we can verify membership prior to the start of the meeting. The main focus of the meeting will be voting on the new Board.
      • The Board is still searching for a Treasurer, Vice President and Dance Committee Chair. Anyone interested in one of these positions should email  PHMSPTSA16@gmail.com
      • The PTSA is collecting gently used Pine Hollow spirit wear; the items will be donated to students in need next school year. If your family has Pilots spirit wear that is too small or no longer worn, please consider dropping it off in the PHMS front office.
      • Please contact PTSA at Phmsptsa16@gmail.com with any questions. You can also find us on Facebook or Twitter @phmsptsa
    • Have a great week, and remember, at Pine Hollow Middle School the sky is the limit!

        • Fri., June 17—6th grade ELA EOG; 7th and 8th grade Math EOG and Math I EOC

    • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams: Parents, as predicted there have been glitches with Dragonfly, and questions I have not been able to get an answer for.
      • Current 8th Grade/Rising 9th Parents - I have not been given details on how to unsubscribe to Pine Hollow in DragonFly.  Parents are having success registering for their high school.  At this time just make sure Leesville can see your child's information.
      • Current 7th Grade/Rising 8th Parents - You will need to go back in and check to see when your physical expires to make sure you have an appointment, so there is no lapse. Also, you need to check to see if you have chosen the sports that your child will try out for. It is easier to select all of the sports they want to try-out for at the beginning.
      • Current 6th Grade/Rising 7th Parents - You can go in and start uploading and filling out the documents required by Wake County.  All documents should be in the forms section of DragonFly.  Please note the titles of each page so that you are uploading them into the proper section.

    • Carpool Reminders: Now that Track 1 is out, carpool should be a little less crowded. Thank you for NOT dropping your students off in the parking lot during morning arrival and pulling all the way up to curb in front of the school to let them out. Thank you for NOT asking your student to meet you off-campus in the afternoon if they are not a walker. If everyone pulls all the way up we can get as many along the curb as possible which makes for a more efficient carpool. And thanks for keeping that middle turn lane open on Leesville Church Road.
    • EOG Remediation and Re-administration: The last two days of this school year are being repurposed for all year-round schools in the district. As such, only students who qualify and choose to participate in remediation/re-administration of the EOGs will be attending the final two days.
    • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams:
      • Regarding DragonFly:
      • Current 8thGraders: After June 1st, you will need to disconnect your account from Pine Hollow and connect your account with the high school your student will be attending. The information should transfer over.  You will need to fill out some of the high school forms.  Check the date of your physical that you uploaded for PH.  They are good for 395 days
      • Current 6thGraders: Please wait until after June 10 before registering in DragonFLy for the upcoming season.  They are making some changes to the program, and I would like to give them time in case of bugs during the rollout.  Remember to check off all the sports your child will try it out for when you register.  It is easier to do it in the beginning.
      • Current 7thgraders: Your information currently in DragonFly will be good until it is time to get a new physical.  When its time for a new physical you will need to redo ALL the paperwork in DragonFly
      • Current 6thand 7th graders: Please wait until after June 10 to create new accounts and upload necessary documents.  Eligibility standards will be normal for the upcoming season.  https://www.wakecountyathletics.com/page/show/2462221-registration-eligibility It is important to get your DragonFLy information in sooner rather than later.  There will be deadlines for registering a week prior to tryouts.  There are only a couple of reasons for late registrations that will be accepted.  It will be a while before tryout information is ready to go on the website.  https://www.wakecountyathletics.com/page/show/2462222-tryout-information
    • Yearbooks: Yearbooks were distributed last week. We have a few extras for sale in the main office. They are $45, cash only.

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 5/29/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for May 29.

    • This Week: There is no school tomorrow as we celebrate Memorial Day. Track 1’s last day for this school year is Thursday. Track 3 & 4 have a four-day week (Tuesday-Friday).
    • Track 1 EOG Scores: Track 1 students were given a letter on Friday to take home and give parents regarding their EOG scores. If your student scored Level NP (not proficient) on an EOG, they received another letter telling you if they are eligible to remediate and re-test. • Afternoon Carpool: Thank you for NOT asking your student to meet you off-campus if they are not a walker. We are responsible for keeping students safe until they are picked up and we cannot do that if they walk off-campus. Everyone’s time is valuable, and I understand that carpool can be frustrating. That’s why we ask cars to pull all the way up so we can get as many along the curb as possible. That makes for a more efficient carpool. • Weekly Message for 5-15-22

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 5/15/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for May 15.

    • This Week: It’s a five-day week for students on Track 1, 3 & 4.
    • Into the Woods, Jr: Congratulations to everyone involved in the musical. It had been a long time since our last production and our students and staff did an awesome job!! I am so sorry for all the confusion around Friday night’s performance that had to be cancelled when WCPSS announced that all after school activities were cancelled. We originally planned to do a make-up show the following week and then realized later that afternoon/evening that not all of the cast would be in town that week. Thus, the decision to do a second show on Saturday. I am so sorry that not everyone who planned to attend Friday night was able to attend Saturday. I appreciate everyone’s understanding that we did the best we could given the challenging circumstances and timing.
    • Band Concert: The Spring concerts are Tuesday night. 6th grade at 6PM and 7th/8th grade at 7PM.
    • Chorus Concert: The Spring concert is Thursday night at 6PM.
    • Spring Dance: This Friday from after school until 6PM. Admission is $5 and students must bring a permission form signed by a parent to attend. This dance is for PHMS students only. Permission forms are attached to this week’s message and are also available on the school website. Any parent who would like to help with the dance needs to sign-up by clicking this link or the link below under the PTSA announcements. Any parent who can donate snacks and/or drinks for the dance, please click this link.
    • Carpool: Will be busier for the next couple of weeks now that all students are in the building. Please be patient and remember to stay in the right lane as you turn onto Leesville Church Road. The center lane must stay clear so that it can be used by those who need to turn left onto Leesville Road. Also, by keeping the middle lane open, it is easier for buses to get through to the back of the school to pick up bus riders. Please also allow folks to exit CVS so that they aren’t stuck there longer than necessary. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
      • Last week we saw the final games of the 2021-2022 Season.  It was awesome to be back on the field after being away for so long.   The softball team went 2-1 for the week finishing the season with an 8-3 record, 2ndplace in the Northern Conference. If you want to see one of the coolest hits, click the link to watch Avery take out her own number on the centerfield fence.  https://twitter.com/PineHollowAD/status/1524868415579734022
      • Wednesday is our Spring Athletic Banquet. We will be back to a pre-covid style of banquet.  We will begin at 6:30 in the cafeteria for a dinner, (please see the flyer to see what you are needed to bring).  We will announce out Athletes and Scholar Athletes of the year before breaking into teams for certificates and team awards.  I am very excited to return to this form of banquet.
      • ALL UNIFORMS SHOULD BE TURNED IN BY WEDNESDAY - Please bag uniforms with name on the bag. Please reach out to me if a uniform has been lost or damaged.
      • Parents, Thank you for all of your dedication this year and helping Pine Hollow have a successful season. Thank you for taking awesome photos and sharing with me to make our social media pages one of the best. Thank you for all that you do to support our student athletes.
      • EmergeOrtho is excited to once again offer our $10Sports Physical event! This year Sports Physicals night will take place on Wednesday, May 25th from 6:00 – 8:00pm at 3100 Duraleigh Road. Cash or check ONLY. First come, first served and availability may be limited. Student-athletes need to fill out the medical history portion of the physical form, and it must be signed and dated by a parent/guardian.  As always, ALL proceeds are donated back to the schools!
    • PHMS Community Reads Event: Join us for Make-and-Take Sun Catchers & Durian Fruit Tasting! We've organized several activities that are inspired by our Community Reads title this semester - A Wish in the Dark by Christina Soontornvat. We're hosting an after-school event on Wednesday, May 18 from 3:15-4:15pm in the PHMS Library and encourage parents or relatives to attend this event with their PHMS student to engage in activities related to the book. You do not need to have read the book to attend. RSVP here so we know to expect you. If you have any questions, please contact Kristen Ziller (library media specialist, kziller@wcpss.net), Mike Hutchinson (6th grade Social Studies teacher, jhutchinson@wcpss.net), or Cassie West (AIG, cwest4@wcpss.net). Posted by Andrew Livengood on 5/8/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for May 8.

    • This Week: It’s a five-day week for students on Track 1&4. Track 3 returns on Wednesday.
    • Carpool: Just a reminder that carpool will be busier starting Wednesday as all students will be in the building.
    • Spring Dance: I can’t believe it’s been this long, but we will be having our first school dance in almost two years on Friday, May 20 from after school until 6PM.
