    Calendar Conversion Feedback for PHMS

On Friday, families with addresses in the base attendance area for Pine Hollow MS should have received a message from the Office of School Choice soliciting feedback regarding a potential school calendar change for school for the 2025-26 school year. Over the course of the next couple of weeks, they will host two virtual public engagement sessions for families and school-based staff to provide feedback and ask questions. These sessions will also be recorded and posted online.

Visit wcpss.net/calendarconversion to view the presentation and review the FAQs. Any information regarding this discussion as it progresses may be found at this website.

New Bus Delay System Launching in 2024-25

WCPSS Technology Services and Transportation have developed a new system to directly notify families when there are disruptions to bus service, which will launch districtwide during the 2024-25 school year.

As a part of this new system, parents will receive direct notices via text and/or email if their child’s bus is delayed or if their route is canceled. To receive these notifications, parents will need to be signed up to receive messages via SchoolMessenger, which is the same system used for sharing the Weekly Principal’s Message from Dr. Carrington sent on Sundays (typically) along with the weekly district-wide messages sent on Wednesdays. If you receive these messages, you should be able to receive bus notifications without taking any further action.

If you do not receive those weekly messages, go to wcpss.net/schoolmessenger to learn how you can sign up to receive notifications. The simplest option may be to simply text YES to the number 67587. That should automatically allow you to begin receiving text notifications.

    Check Transportation Status for 2024-25

A few weeks ago, families with children eligible to receive bus transportation should have received an email about rider status for the 2024-25 school year. Be sure to view your student’s 2024-25 Transportation status in PowerSchool. Your student’s AM and/or PM transportation codes will display “Y” (yes) or “N” (no) for the 2024-25 school year until routes are posted. Routes usually are posted about 10 days before the start of the school year.

    • If your student’s code is “Y” and your student will be using transportation next school year, no action is required.

    • If your student’s code is “N” and you would like for your student to use transportation next school year, please submit a transportation request

    • If your student’s code is “Y” and your student will not be using transportation next school year, please submit the decline bus form at www.wcpss.net/declinebus.

Important Immunization Information for Parents/Guardians of Rising 7th Graders

State law requires all rising 7th graders to have a Meningococcal and Tdap vaccine. Students will be required to have vaccination completed by the start of the 2024-2025 school year. Immunization records can be emailed to Ms. Thomas, our Data Manager at bwthomas@wcpss.net or please feel free to drop off in the main office for Ms. Thomas. Failure to complete this process may result in your child not being able to attend school, so please be sure to take care of this ASAP.

Students Not Returning to WCPSS Next Year

If your child will not be returning to WCPSS for the 2024-2025 school year, please email our data manager, Ms. Thomas (bwthomas@wcpss.net) as soon as possible to let her know. If you know where your child will attend a school other than WCPSS next year, please include that information in your email. Please also remember to return your child’s Chromebook and any library books or ELA novels before your child’s last day of school.

    Library Updates from Ms. Ziller

All Track 3 and 4 Library books are due on Thursday, June 20th: Students may check their Destiny Library account for details on which books they have checked out. If students have questions or concerns, they may see Ms. Ziller in the library.

EOG/EOC Testing This Week (Beginning June 12)

On Wednesday, June 12, we will begin End-of-Grade (EOG) and End-of-Course (EOC) testing for Tracks 3 & 4, which is required by NC law. As such, it is critical that all students are present to take these exams on the testing dates listed below. Our testing window will be from roughly 8:15 am - 12:30 pm each day, so it is very important that students arrive at school on time (or early) so that they have time to get to their testing location and get settled.

As always, please remind your child(ren) to get plenty of rest each night and to eat a balanced breakfast in the morning to get their brain juices flowing.

Also, please keep in mind that school does NOT end early on testing days. School will continue as usual after testing. If parents/guardians make the decision to check their students out, this will have to be done after the testing window concludes for all students. We will not interrupt secure testing sessions to request students for dismissal. As a reminder, unless there is a valid reason for getting picked up (in accordance with WCPSS and state attendance policies), absences will be coded as unexcused

    Track 3 & 4 EOG/EOC Testing Schedule

    • Wednesday, June 12 - 6th and 8th Grade ELA EOG; 7th Grade Math EOG

    • Thursday, June 13 - 7th Grade ELA EOG; 6th and 8th Grade Math EOG; Math 1 EOC

    • Friday, June 14 - 8th Grade Science EOG; Math 1 EOC for 7th grade

If you have any questions about testing, please feel free to reach out to our Testing Coordinator (Mrs. Stern) at jstern@wcpss.net.

    Track 1 End-of-Year Celebrations

As we prepare to wrap up the school year for Track 1, the time has come for some end-of-year celebrations. While this information has been communicated from team teachers since the start of the school year, we wanted to remind everyone that Track 1 teams will be celebrating their students this Friday, May 31 at different times.

    • 6-1 Team: Recognition Ceremony from 9:00 am - 9:45 am in Auditorium; refreshments from 9:45 am - 10:30 am in Cafeteria

    • 7-1 Team: Recognition Ceremony from 1:15 pm - 2:00 pm in Auditorium; refreshments from 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm in Cafeteria

    • 8-1 Team: Recognition Ceremony from 10:30 am - 11:30 am in Auditorium

8th Grade Celebration on Friday (5/31)

As our 8th graders prepare to wrap up their time at Pine Hollow Middle School, we are excited to celebrate with them this coming Friday, May 31. If you are looking for a way to get involved to support our 8th graders, below are a few options you may wish to consider.

Option 1 - Attend Celebration as Adult Volunteer

First, for anyone who would like to physically be a part of the celebration, we are seeking adult volunteers to assist with a variety of roles (e.g., snack monitor, field games/activities monitor, floater, etc.). If you are an approved WCPSS volunteer and you wish to assist in this capacity, please sign up using the 8th Grade Celebration Adult Volunteer Sign-Up. For safety reasons, only parents/guardians who are volunteering and screened by the district are able to be on campus for this event.

    Option 2 - Donate Snacks/Drinks

If you are unable to volunteer in person but still want to assist, our PTSA is assisting with sponsoring this celebration, and we are seeking parents/guardians who may wish to contribute drink and snack items (e.g., bottled water, bags of chips, cookies, etc.). If you'd like to sign up to provide any of these items (or coolers), please sign up on this snacks and drinks sign-up.

    EOG Remediation & Readministration

As mentioned above, students in 6th - 8th Grade will take the EOG and EOC tests at the end of this school year. Should your child meet the criteria for our EOG Remediation and Re-administration program, you will receive an invitation for your child to attend this special program after they have taken their EOGs.

For your planning purposes, the program dates for the end of the school year are June 4th and 5th for Track 1, and June 27th and 28th for Track 3 and 4. Transportation will be provided, and breakfast and lunch will be available. For any testing questions, please contact Julie Stern at jstern@wcpss.net.

Track 1 Announcements from Ms. Ziller

All Track 1 Library books are now overdue: Students may check their Destiny Library account for details on which books they have checked out. All track 1 library books are to be returned ASAP. If students have questions or concerns, they may see Ms. Ziller in the library.

You can click here to review the questions included on this survey. If you would prefer that your child NOT participate in this survey, please complete this digital opt-out form by 3:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
