Weekly Message for 10-2-22

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 10/2/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for October 2.

  • This Week: Track 1 returns tomorrow. This week is a five-day week for students on Track 1 &3. Track 4 is now tracked out and returns on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
  • Track 1 Report Cards: Students on Track 1 will receive their report cards on Friday.
  • Attention 6-3 and 8-3 Parents: Students on the 6-3 and 8-3 teams were given a letter last Thursday to take home and give to their parent. This letter provides updates regarding teacher vacancies on these teams.
  • Community Reads: Attention Pilot Families… As many of you have read in this weekly email, or maybe heard from your student, we are in the beginning stages of our Fall Community Reads project. This is an activity that fosters a community feel around a shared story. In the coming weeks we will offer games and activities related to the story Front Desk by Kelly Yang. We encourage you to get involved! Read the story with or alongside your student and make plans to join us for the discussions and activities later this fall (you don’t have to have read the book to attend…come out to support your student and their reading!). Some families feel a disconnection from the school building and the community that is created in elementary school, if that sounds like you… maybe Community Reads will fill that void. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Ziller at kziller@wcpss.net or Mr. Hutchinson at jhutchinson@wcpss.net
  • Fun Run: The annual Food Drive Fun Run is back and will be on October 29th at 9am on the PHMS track! This year we have two registration options for participants. You can register to receive a t-shirt for $20 or register to participate with no t-shirt for $10. As always, all funds will benefit the Food Bank of NC and contribute to the Students Against Hunger Food Drive competition. Registration is online or in person before school in the cafeteria 9/27, 9/29, 10/5 and 10/6. Please visit bit.ly/phmsfunrun22 for more information or see our attached flyer. We look forward to your support in this fun event!
  • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams:

    • Soccer and Volleyball are home on Wednesday vs. West Millbrook.
    • Football is home on Thursday vs. West Millbrook.
    • Ticket prices this year are $6.
    • You can use cash at the gate or buy tickets online at GoFan. https://gofan.co/app/school/NC67966
    • Athletic passes are available for purchase as well on our Athletic Website.  https://wakecountyathleticzone.com/pine-hollow/
  • Social Media Presentation for Parents: Our counselors will be doing another presentation for parents regarding the latest social media trends and how to keep students safe. It will be Oct. 27 at 6PM. All parents are invited.
  • Teacher Recognition Program:  Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.
  • From the PTSA:
  • Have a great week and remember, at Pine Hollow Middle School the sky is the limit!!
