Posted by Andrew Livengood on 8/28/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for August 28.

  • This Week: This week is a five-day week for all students. Friday is an Early Release. School will dismiss at 1PM.
  • Buses: With the start of traditional calendar schools this week, there may be some delays with bus routes. Parents are encouraged to download the Here Comes the Bus app if your student rides the bus to/from school. Click this link for more info: https://www.wcpss.net/Page/35380
  • Fall Pictures: Strawbridge Studios will be here on Tuesday to take your student’s picture for the yearbook. Attached is an order form if you would like to purchase a picture packet. You can also click this link to sign up to receive updates via email regarding your child's school portraits. These updates include promotions, additional deals and the ability to order more pictures at a later time. When entering student information, parents should be sure to enter the student's name as it is on file at the school.
  • Attention Battle of the Books Families: We will meet again on Wednesday from 3:15 - 4:00 in Mr. Hutchinson's classroom across from the library. Please make sure you have planned for rides home at 4:00. At this meeting we will begin picking small groups and battling head-to-head for points. Please fill out this linked form to help Mr. H communicate with your family. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Hutchinson at jhutchinson@wcpss.net.
  • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams:
    • This Wednesday marks the deadline to be approved in DragonFly.  This means all needed papers have been submitted and approved by Mr. Adams.  I would not wait until Tuesday evening to do this.
    • We are in the process of hiring our Girls’ Soccer coach, and hoping the rest of the process will go quickly.   Tryout information will be updated on the website.
    • Tryouts will begin on Sept. 6 for all Fall sports.
    • This year we will sell cash tickets at the gate for $6.  We will also have digital tickets available through the GoFan app for $6.
    • Sports Pass information will be out very soon.
  • Crowded Carpool: With all of our students in the building for the next two weeks, carpool will be more crowded in the morning and afternoon. Please be patient and pull all the way up before stopping to let your student in/out of your vehicle. Please also remember our new traffic procedures on Leesville Church Road to avoid traffic backing up and blocking the day care or CVS. See the attachment for more details.
  • Social Media Presentation for Parents: Our counselors will be doing a couple of presentations for parents regarding the latest social media trends and how to keep students safe. The dates are Sept. 15 at 6PM and Oct. 27 at 6PM. All parents are invited. See the flier in the weekly message.
  • Attention 7th Grade Parents: State law requires all rising 7th graders to have a Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine. Students on Track 1 & 3 have until Aug. 7, and Track 4 students have until Sept. 3.  Click here for more info. Immunization records can be emailed to Ms. Thomas, our data manager, at bwthomas@wcpss.net or mailed to the school to her attention.
  • Teacher Recognition Program:  Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.
