Weekly Message for 8-21-22

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 8/21/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for August 21.

  • This Week: This week is a five-day week for all students as Track 3 returns tomorrow!
  • Crowded Carpool: With all of our students in the building for the next three weeks, carpool will be more crowded in the morning and afternoon. Please be patient and pull all the way up before stopping to let your student in/out of your vehicle. Please also remember our new traffic procedures on Leesville Church Road to avoid traffic backing up and blocking the day care or CVS. See the attachment for more details.
  • Confiscated Cell Phones: Please be aware that if a student’s cell phone is confiscated, it is sent to the office and kept there until a parent can come to school and pick it up. Students are not permitted to use their phones from the time they arrive to school until 3PM unless they have a teacher’s permission. This has gone well thus far!
  • PHMS Community Reads: We are cultivating a culture of reading at PHMS by sharing reading within our community. We encourage students, school staff, parents, relatives, and neighbors to read the same book and engage in discussion and activities with each other. Our Community Reads selection this semester is Front Desk by Kelly Yang. PHMS library copies are available for student checkout, visit your local library to check out a copy, or purchase your copy from your favorite place to buy books. Happy reading! Details on related activities and discussion coming soon. If you have any questions, please contact Kristen Ziller (library media specialist, kziller@wcpss.net) or Mike Hutchinson (6th grade Social Studies teacher, jhutchinson@wcpss.net).
  • Fall Pictures: Strawbridge Studios will be here on Tuesday, Aug. 30 to take your student’s picture for the yearbook. Attached is an order form if you would like to purchase a picture packet. You can also click this link to sign up to receive updates via email regarding your child's school portraits. These updates include promotions, additional deals and the ability to order more pictures at a later time. When entering student information, parents should be sure to enter the student's name as it is on file at the school.
  • Social Media Presentation for Parents: Our counselors will be doing a couple of presentations for parents regarding the latest social media trends and how to keep students safe. The dates are Sept. 15 at 6PM and Oct. 27 at 6PM. All parents are invited. See the flier in the weekly message.
  • Attention 7th Grade Parents: State law requires all rising 7th graders to have a Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine. Students on Track 1 & 3 have until Aug. 7, and Track 4 students have until Sept. 3.  Click here for more info. Immunization records can be emailed to Ms. Thomas, our data manager, at bwthomas@wcpss.net or mailed to the school to her attention.
  • Teacher Recognition Program:  Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.
  • From the PTSA:
  • Lacrosse Opportunity: This announcement is being offered as a courtesy. Ambush Lax is not affiliated with PHMS in any way.
    • Bring a friend, build your skills! Ambush Lacrosse is a non-profit lacrosse club that is a 2-time champion for all of the middle school lacrosse clubs across Wake county (TYLC) and will be sponsoring fall skills development for boys (4th-8th grade) in the Leesville community from Tuesday, September 13th- Thursday, Oct 27th! All skill levels are welcome and we are offering FREE lacrosse for all 4th and 5th graders that are projected to attend LRHS! For complete details visit Ambushlax.com. Register today!
  • Have a great week and remember, at Pine Hollow Middle School the sky is the limit!!
