Weekly Message for 7-31-22

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 7/31/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for July 31.

  • Track 4 Meet The Teacher: We had a great first day of school on Friday as we welcomed our Track 4 students to the 2022-23 school year! Track 4 Meet The Teacher Night will be on Thursday, from 5:30-7PM. Parents will go to the cafeteria and gym from 5:30-6:15 to meet your student’s PE and elective teachers. From 6:15-7:00 you will go to your student’s team area where you will meet their core teachers. See the attachment in this week’s message for more info. See you Thursday!
  • This Week: This week is a five-day week for students on Track 1 and 4. Track 3 is tracked-out and returns on Aug. 22.
  • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams: We are just 31 days until the DEADLINE for all paperwork to be submitted into DragonFLy.  Please do not plan on a grace period for late paperwork or for paperwork submitted at the last moment that is not complete.
    • AUG 1 - Kickoff meeting for Fall Sports only.  6pm in the auditorium. We will have breakout sessions with our Volleyball, Football and Cheer Coaches.
    • AUG 31 - Deadline for Completed paperwork to be submitted into DragonFLy
    • 8th Grade Parents - Many of your students' physicals will be expiring around the time of try-outs, so please make sure you have the new ones ready to go, so tryouts will not be missed or interrupted.
    • Remind your students to check the bulletin board to see if they are on the approved for Tryouts List.
    • Some Tryout information has been updated on the athletic website: https://www.wakecountyathletics.com/page/show/2462222-tryout-information
  • Student Handbook: The PHMS student/parent handbook is posted to our website under the “students” tab or you can click here.
  • School Meals: This year students will need to pay for any meals they eat unless they have applied and been approved for free or reduced priced meals. For meal costs and other information re: school means, including how to apply for free or reduced priced meals, click here.
  • How To Get Parent Portal Access: All parents are encouraged to get a Parent Portal account so you can monitor your student’s grades and attendance. Instructions on getting an account are on our website under the “Parents” tab or click here. If you have already given us the form but not yet gotten access, don’t worry! It takes a while for your information to be entered and for the system to email you. Track 4 parents, no attendance or grades are entered into PowerSchool for the first 10 days of school, so there is nothing for you to see just yet.
  • Attention 7th Grade Parents: State law requires all rising 7th graders to have a Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine. Students on Track 1 & 3 have until Aug. 7, and Track 4 students have until Sept. 3. Click here for more info. Immunization records can be emailed to Ms. Thomas, our data manager, at bwthomas@wcpss.net or mailed to the school to her attention.
  • Carpool: As many of you have already noticed, our carpool line can get quite backed up. It can impede traffic in/out of the daycare as well as the CVS. Sometimes it backs up all the way to the traffic light on Leesville Road. We want to be good neighbors to nearby businesses and residences, so we are trying something new this year.

If you see that traffic on Leesville Church Road is backed up so that you cannot make an immediate left turn onto Bartram Place, please continue down Leesville Church Road and make a u-turn so that you will then turn right onto Bartram Place. This will prevent the line from backing all the way up to the traffic light and it will allow folks to get into/out of the CVS and the daycare.

Please see the attachment in this message for a map that illustrates this new traffic pattern. Thank you for help in minimizing the impact of our carpool on our neighbors.

  • Weekly Message: The weekly message goes out on Sunday mornings. You will get an email and a text message. We also post the message on the school’s website under the “our school” tab and then “principal’s weekly message”. If you don’t receive the email and/or text message, it means we are missing that contact info and ask that you call the school so we can update it.
  • Have a great week and remember, at Pine Hollow Middle School the sky is the limit!!
