Weekly Message for 7-24-22

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 7/24/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for July 24.

  • This Week: This week is a five-day week for students on Track 1. Track 3 will track-out on Thursday, and Track 4’s first day will be Friday, July 29. Track 1 & 3 parents, please be aware that Thursday, July 28 is an Early Release day. School will dismiss at 1pm.
  • Network Upgrade/Phones Down: Thursday our school’s phones and internet will be down for a little while starting at 7AM. A team from Technology Services will be here to upgrade our computer system, including our wireless access points. The first priority will be to get our office phones back up and running. They should be back on-line by the start of the school day.
  • From the PTSA:
  • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams: 8th Grade Parents that have a DragonFLy account from last year and your child's physical is still current, please make sure you have selected the sports your child is interested in trying out for. I need to move them over to this year.  When your child's physical runs out, ALL the paperwork in DragonFLy will have to be completed again.
    • Paperwork is DragonFLy is not complete.
    • That sport was not selected to for tryouts
    • Academically ineligible
    • Please remind your child to check the Athletic Bulletin Board on their way to the gym to see if their name is on the approved list.
    • Why their name may not be on the list:
    • Fall Sports Kick-Off Meeting - August 1, 6:00 in the auditorium.  This meeting is primarily for parents (Football, Girls' Soccer, Volleyball and Cheer)
    • DEADLINE TO HAVE COMPLETED PAPERWORK IN DRAGONFLY - Aug 31. The deadline is a week prior to the start of tryouts, so the coaches can prepare.
    • Please stay tuned to our Social media pages as well as Athletic website.
  • Carpool: As many of you have already noticed, our carpool line can get quite backed up. It can impede traffic in/out of the daycare as well as the CVS. Sometimes it backs up all the way to the traffic light on Leesville Road. We want to be good neighbors to nearby businesses and residences, so we are going to try something new.

If you see that traffic on Leesville Church Road is backed up so that you cannot make an immediate left turn onto Bartram Place, please continue down Leesville Church Road and make a u-turn so that you will then turn right onto Bartram Place. This will prevent the line from backing all the way up to the traffic light and it will allow folks to get into/out of the CVS and the daycare.

Please see the attachment in this message for a map that illustrates this new traffic pattern. Thank you for help in minimizing the impact of our carpool on our neighbors.

  • Student Handbook: The PHMS student/parent handbook is posted to our website under the “students” tab or you can click here.
  • School Meals: This year students will need to pay for any meals they eat unless they have applied and been approved for free or reduced priced meals. For meal costs and other information re: school means, including how to apply for free or reduced priced meals, click here.
  • How To Get Parent Portal Access: All parents are encouraged to get a Parent Portal account so you can monitor your student’s grades and attendance. Instructions on getting an account are on our website under the “Parents” tab or click here. If you have already given us the form but not yet gotten access, don’t worry! It takes a while for your information to be entered and for the system to email you.
  • Attention 7th Grade Parents: State law requires all rising 7th graders to have a Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine. Students on Track 1 & 3 have until Aug. 7, and Track 4 students have until Sept. 3. Click here for more info. Immunization records can be emailed to Ms. Thomas, our data manager, at bwthomas@wcpss.net or mailed to the school to her attention.
  • Weekly Message: The weekly message goes out on Sunday mornings. You will get an email and a text message. We also post the message on the school’s website under the “our school” tab and then “principal’s weekly message”. If you don’t receive the email and/or text message, it means we are missing that contact info and ask that you call the school so we can update it.
  • Have a great week and remember, at Pine Hollow Middle School the sky is the limit!!
