Weekly Message for 4-17-22

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 4/17/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for April 17.

  • This Week: It’s a five-day week for students on Track 1&4. Track 4 returns tomorrow and track 3 is out until May 11.
  • EOG Remediation and Re-administration: All parents need to see the attachment in this week’s message regarding a remediation and re-administration of the EOG for select students. The last two days of the school year are being repurposed for all year-round schools in the district. As such, only students who qualify and choose to participate in remediation/re-administration of the EOGs will be attending the final two days. Please see the attachment for more info.
  • Reproductive Health Safety: The next unit of study in Healthful Living covers Reproductive Health & Safety. Attached to this week’s message is a letter from our Healthful Living teachers. Any parent who does not want their child to participate in this unit must submit a request to the Healthful Living teacher in writing. Please contact your child’s HL teacher if you have any questions.
  • WCPSS District-Wide Family Survey: Wake County Public Schools is administering a District Wide Family Survey from Monday, April 4 through Friday, May 6. This survey provides families the opportunity to provide valuable information and a high-quality data source for planning and School Improvement. The survey has been translated into various languages; Spanish, Arabic, French, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese in an effort to provide accessibility to families in Wake County Public Schools. The survey administration language can be chosen by families before taking the survey. The link to access the survey will be: “surveys.panoramaed.com/wakecounty/family”. All families are encouraged to complete it.
  • Musical: This year’s musical is Into the Woods, Jr. and we will be offering four shows: Wednesday, May 4 after school for students only; Thursday the 5th and Friday the 6th at 7pm; and a Saturday matinee at 2pm. Tickets for all shows are $8 and will be on sale again this week. Students can purchase tickets during the school day. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. can purchase tickets between 9-2 in the main office. As much as possible, we encourage students to purchase tickets so that parents don’t have to come to school, but they can if they so choose.
  • Puppy Drive: The National Junior Honor Society is hosting a puppy drive! All donations will be going to Saving Grace. Saving Grace is a local adoption center for dogs of any age. They take volunteers, donations, and you can also foster dogs for a short amount of time. We are asking for gently used or new towels/sheets, fleece or wool blankets, and canned dog food. The drive began on March 23rd and ends on April 22nd. Any donations would be appreciated! Students can drop off items in the bins in the office and Ms. West's room.
  • Yearbook: The last day to reserve your copy of the 21-22 yearbook for $40 is Sunday, April 17. The price will go up to $45 starting Monday, April 18, and there will be a limited number available. Go to yearbookordercenter.com and enter order number 21759.
  • Spring Dance: We will be having our first school dance in almost two years on Friday, May 20 from after school until 6PM. More info to come.
  • EOG/EOC Testing: Track 1 students will begin testing on May 23 and Tracks 3&4 will begin testing on June 16. Please make every effort to have your child here during testing days. Students in the Virtual Academy will test here at PHMS.
  • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams:
    • After a light week of activities, the Pilots get back in action this week. The softball team has a busy week with 3 games this week.  They will host West Millbrook on Monday, East Millbrook on Wednesday, and travel to Carroll on Thursday. Admission to all games will be $5.  The Track team will head to Carroll on Wednesday for Dual Double meet.  We are only running vs Carroll while Carroll will be running against us and West at the same time. The Boys' Soccer team has a bye this week.
    • 8thGrade Recognition Posters.  Cayce Wagner will be taking pics of 8th graders whose parents have purchased a poster for recognition at the last home game.  8th graders for Track and softball will be taken after school on Tuesday and Boys' Soccer will be on Thursday.  Order info is on the team pages of our athletics webpage.
    • Spring Athletic Banquet will be May 18, 6:30 at Pine Hollow.  Details will be shared soon.
    • Spring Spiritwear will be delivered to track 4 students who purchased on Monday.
  • Teacher Recognition Program:  Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our new Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.
