Weekly Message for 4-3-22

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 4/3/2022

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for April 3.

  • This Week: It’s a five-day week for students on Track 1&3. Track 4 is tracked-out and returns April 18.
  • Reproductive Health Safety: The next unit of study in Healthful Living covers Reproductive Health & Safety. Attached to this week’s message is a letter from our Healthful Living teachers. Any parent who does not want their child to participate in this unit must submit a request to the Healthful Living teacher in writing. Please contact your child’s HL teacher if you have any questions.
  • Track Change Requests: Today is the last day to submit a track change request for next school year via this Google Survey: https://forms.gle/sgCwvauEZRkEazyJ6 The window will close at 11:59PM tonight. No action is required if you like the track your student is on now. We will not be able to finalize track assignments until the end of April/beginning of May. We must wait for the YR elementary schools to finalize their track assignments first to ensure all siblings are aligned to the same track.
  • WCPSS District-Wide Family Survey: Wake County Public Schools is administering a District Wide Family Survey from Monday, April 4 through Friday, May 6. This survey provides families the opportunity to provide valuable information and a high-quality data source for planning and School Improvement. The survey has been translated into various languages; Spanish, Arabic, French, Korean, Vietnamese, and Chinese in an effort to provide accessibility to families in Wake County Public Schools. The survey administration language can be chosen by families before taking the survey. The link to access the survey will be: “surveys.panoramaed.com/wakecounty/family”. All families are encouraged to complete it once the window opens tomorrow.
  • Musical: This year’s musical is Into the Woods, Jr. and we will be offering four shows: Wednesday, May 4 after school for students only; Thursday the 5th and Friday the 6th at 7pm; and a Saturday matinee at 2pm. Tickets for all shows are $8 and will be on sale Monday, April 11 through Thursday, April 14. Students can purchase tickets during the school day. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. can purchase tickets between 9-2 in the main office. As much as possible, we encourage students to purchase tickets so that parents don’t have to come to school, but they can if they so choose.
  • Puppy Drive: The National Junior Honor Society is hosting a puppy drive! All donations will be going to Saving Grace. Saving Grace is a local adoption center for dogs of any age. They take volunteers, donations, and you can also foster dogs for a short amount of time. We are asking for gently used or new towels/sheets, fleece or wool blankets, and canned dog food. The drive began on March 23rd and ends on April 22nd. Any donations would be appreciated! Students can drop off items in the bins in the office and Ms. West's room.
  • Spring Dance: We will be having our first school dance in almost two years on Friday, May 20 from after school until 6PM. More info to come.
  • EOG/EOC Testing: Track 1 students will begin testing on May 23 and Tracks 3&4 will begin testing on June 16. Please make every effort to have your child here during testing days. Students in the Virtual Academy will test here at PHMS.
  • SPRING CLEANING?: Student Services is welcoming clothing donations appropriate for middle school-aged boys and girls in all shapes and sizes. Items most needed include pants, shorts, shoes, and underwear. Again, all junior/adult sizes are welcome. Clothing donations can be dropped off in the main office during school hours.
  • Yearbook: The deadline to submit pictures to be used in the yearbook is April 8. Here is a flyer and the form to submit. Go to our yearbook page for more information.
  • From Our Athletic Director, Mr. Adams:
    • The Pilots fought hard this week.  Boys' Soccer pulled out the win in OT over Wakefield 1-0.  Softball remained perfect defeating Carroll 17-4.  This sets up a Monday match-up with rival Leesville, both teams are 3-0.  Girl's track came just 7 points shy vs Wakefield but defeated Durant in the Tri-meet. Finley Lewis set the school record in the high Jump.  Boys Track fell to both teams however Will Condron broke the school record for the 100 and 200.
    • Softball and Soccer team photos will be taken this week on Thursday. Online order info is on the team page for your sport.  Paper order forms are also available, you can contact me or your coach.
    • Track Team photos will be taken April 12.
    • As spring fever is upon us, please remind your kids that second semester grades and attendance form this school year, will factor into their eligibility for Fall and Winter Sports for the next school year.
    • This Week Softball travels to Leesville on Monday for a showdown between 2 undefeated teams. Please support our Lady Pilots.  On Tuesday we have another match between two undefeated teams, your Pilots and Durant.  We need an energetic crowd for both games to help our teams remain unbeaten.  Track will not have a meet on Wednesday due to the Tri-meet this past week.  The softball game for Thursday has been moved to April 20 due to a shortage of umpires.
    • As always you can check out team pages on the website to see how our teams have done for the year https://www.wakecountyathletics.com/page/show/5721538-pine-hollow-team-pages
  •
  • Attention VA Families: 4th Quarter materials are now available for pickup in the main office. Please return your student’s ELA novels when picking up 4th Q materials (6th grade - Flush; World Without Fish; 7th grade - none; 8th grade - Mighty Long Way; Little Rock Girl)
  • Student Council Needs Help: PHMS Student Council needs supplies for the last quarter of school, including EOG treats for students and Cafeteria Appreciation week. Please visit this link to sign up and donate supplies. Thanks so much for the support!
  • Teacher Recognition Program:  Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our new Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.
