Weekly Message for 6-20-21

Posted by Andrew Livengood on 6/20/2021

Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for June 20. This will be the final weekly message for the 20-21 school year. The next weekly message will be in July.

  • Happy Father’s Day to all our fathers and grandfathers!!
  • This Week: Tomorrow is the last day of school for this year. We wish our 8th graders much success in high school!
  • EOG Scores: Plan A students were given a letter on Friday to take home and share with parents. This letter contained the student’s Math EOG/EOC score and their Science EOG score (8th graders only). We won’t have Reading EOG scores until the fall. Parents of students in the VA will receive an email from the student’s HR teacher containing this information.
  • Annual WCPSS Student Survey: Parents are asked to please have your child complete the survey found at this link. Student may respond until June 30.
  • Information re: 21-22 school year:
    • Due to the lingering impact of the pandemic, we will not be doing our traditional “Fly By” schedule pick up and open house.
    • All students will be given a copy of their schedule when they come to school on their first day.
    • At some point after July 1, Power School will roll over from the 20-21 school year to the 21-22 school year. At that point, students and parents will be able to see schedules for the upcoming school year. That roll-over is controlled by the state (NC DPI), so we don’t know exactly when that will happen.
    • Teachers are in the process of creating/revising videos and other “virtual open house” activities that we will use to welcome our students and families.
    • Several resources from the 20-21 school year are still available on our website for families who will be brand-new to our school. Just please keep in mind there will be some changes as we move into the new school year. For instance, our Student Services team created a virtual tour that can be seen here: https://sites.google.com/wcpss.net/phms-student-services/virtual-tour?authuser=0. If you go to our website (https://www.wcpss.net/pinehollowms) and click on the “Academics” tab and then each grade level, you can find a lot of useful information.
    • Our student handbook for the 21-22 school year can be seen here: https://www.wcpss.net/domain/10551
    • The first day for students on Tracks 1&3 is Thursday, July 8, and the first day for students on Track 4 is Monday, August 2.
  • Enjoy this break over the next couple of weeks as we get ready for the new school year, and remember, at Pine Hollow Middle School the sky is the limit!
