Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for June 13.

  • This Week: This week is a five-day week for all students. The last day of school for this year is Monday, June 21. We continue EOGs this week. See below for details.
  • EOG/EOC Test Calendar:
    • VA Testing:
      • Tuesday, June 15thVA and Plan A-- 8th grade Science EOG
      • VA students must be at school no later than 8:05.
    • Plan A Testing:
      • Monday, June 14th: 6th grade Math EOG; 7th and 8th grade ELA EOG
      • Tuesday, June 15th: 6th grade ELA EOG; 7th grade Math EOG; 8th grade Science EOG
  • All Library Books Due June 16: All PHMS library books, those library books still checked out from other WCPSS schools, and ELA class novels are to be returned inside to the library or outside to the book return bin in the front entry breezeway.  There will be a book return bin outside in the breezeway every school day from 7:35am and 3:00pm through Monday, June 21st. If you have any questions about library materials, please contact Ms. Ziller, school librarian (kziller@wcpss.net).
  • 8th Grade Celebration: 8th grade students will sign the spirit rock and have their final gathering on Friday, June 18 from 1:30-3:00 on the football field. 8th grade Virtual Academy students may come to school at 1:30 to participate. PTSA will be providing Kona Ice and each student will receive a “swag” bag. This event is for current PH 8th grade students only.
  • Annual WCPSS Student Survey: Parents are asked to please have your child complete the survey found at this link. Student may respond until June 30.
  • From Our Athletic Director: Parents, I just received some of the information regarding the 2021-2022 sports seasons.  I am still sifting through all of the information but thought I would share some headlines with you. I will provide more details through the athletic website.
    •  Wake is transitioning to a new athletic participation form.  (I DO NOT want them turned in at this time)
    • We are also transitioning to a new online registration system.  It is the same format the high schools are using; the middle school platform is not up and running yet.  I plan on using the online portal as we have in the past and will not be collecting the 5-page packets.
    • There will be no summer workouts this year. Middle schools are in a dead period and will not resume activities until at least Aug 30.
    • Academic and attendance requirements will be in place as usual.  (You must pass 3/4 core classes and miss no more than 14 days in the second semester of 2020-2021 school year.  Excused absences still count toward the 14)
  • Student Connectivity Devices--Hotspots: All internet “hotspots” issued to students must be returned by the last day of this school year. Parents can send them to school with their child (if they have returned to in-person learning) or drop them off at the main office (VA and in-person students). All hotspots will be turned off after the last day of school. Hotspots do not have to be returned to the school from which they were checked out. They can be returned to any school in the district.
  • Student Chromebooks: Students who will remain in WCPSS next year (even if they will be at a different WCPSS school) should keep a device if one was issued to them. The only students who should return a Chromebook are those who are graduating or otherwise leaving the district (i.e. withdrawing).
  • Calendars for next year: Click here for the 21-22 calendars.
  • New Teacher Recognition Program: Is there a teacher or staff member you would like to celebrate for doing a terrific job? Has someone been consistently outstanding or maybe gone above-and-beyond recently for your student/family? If so, I encourage you to nominate that person for our new Top Gun Staff Member of the Month award. There aren’t any firm rules or requirements to nominate someone for recognition. The point of this is to recognize a teacher or two each month who was nominated by a student or parent. The teacher(s) would be recognized in front of their peers at the next staff meeting. In order to nominate someone, just fill out this form and make sure to clearly explain why you think they are deserving of this recognition.
  • Yearbooks: Yearbooks will be distributed to Plan A students on Wednesday and Thursday during arrival time and Flight School. Virtual Academy students will be able to pick theirs up from the front office starting on Friday. If you purchased a yearbook, you will be receiving an email with more details. There are still a few yearbooks for purchase. Go to yearbookordercenter.com and enter the code 21759. The price is $45. Please email Ms. Anderson (kanderson1@wcpss.net) if you buy online after Tuesday so your name can be added to the distribution list.
  • Have a great week and remember, at Pine Hollow Middle School the sky is the limit!
