Weekly Message for 4-25-21
Posted by Andrew Livengood on 4/25/2021
Hello Pine Hollow Middle School community. This is your principal, Andrew Livengood, with the weekly message for April 25.
- This Week: Is a five-day week for all students.
- Spotlight on Students: Each year the PH staff has the tall task of selecting our Spotlight on Student winner who is recognized during a special meeting of the WCPSS Board of Education. Unfortunately, that did not happen this year due to the pandemic but we decided to follow our normal process of asking teachers to nominate deserving students. The qualities we look for when selecting a Spotlight winner include, but are not limited to, having strong character, possessing leadership, being a good citizen, excelling in academics, and self-advocating for a healthy lifestyle. Each grade level and our PE/elective teachers selected two students to nominate. Each of these eight students received a certificate and a gift card to Goodberry’s compliments of the PTSA. The eight nominees were: Diego Alfaro and Logan Festog (6th grade), Olivia Forrester and Emily Crawford (7th grade), Roman Menendez and Makayla Moore (8th grade), and Halle Gibson and Kevin Dang (from PE/Electives). Congratulations to these terrific Pilots!!
- Virtual Academy for 2021-22: Parents can now sign-up for their students to be in the VA for the upcoming school year. The registration window opened last Thursday and closes Sunday, May 2 at 5 pm. For more information and/or to enroll visit: https://www.wcpss.net/Page/48305
- Virtual Academy EOG/EOC Survey: We need to identify which/how many VA students will be coming to school to take their End-of-Grade/End-of-Course tests. All students are encouraged to take the year-end tests, but I recognize not all families are comfortable having their student in the building right now. Nothing punitive will happen to students who do not take the EOG/EOC tests. A schedule of exactly which test will be given on which day will be published next month once it has been finalized. If your student is in the VA and you have not already taken the survey, please do so by April 30. This is only for parents of VA students. Here is the link: https://forms.gle/Tj5EsapSAAKCAJU5A.
- Lunch: We were not able to begin selling extra items last week due to complications beyond our control. We are hoping to be able to start this week.
- Athletics: Parents that registered for Winter Workouts (boys’ and girls’ basketball and cheerleading) will be receiving an email from Mr. Adams soon.
- ELA Novels: Students need to return the ELA novels listed below back to school as soon as possible. The students will no longer need these novels and we need to have an accurate count to prepare for the upcoming school year. If your student is attending school as Plan A, please have them return the novels to their ELA teacher. If your student is a VA student, please drop them off at the front office between 7:35am-4:00pm. If your student is unsure if they have already returned a novel or if they have lost/misplaced one of their novels, please have them contact Julie Stern (jstern@wcpss.net).
